1. Review:

Last time we talked about Deciles of grouped

data right?
Yes Ma’am.

So, What is decile?

The decile are the nine score point which
divide a distribution into ten equal parts.

What is the formula?

𝑟∑𝑓
−𝑐𝑓
Dr = lb + ⌊ 10 ⌋𝑖
𝑓
Okay! Let’s have a review.

I have here a frequency distribution table of

the scores of grade 10 students in their quiz.
We’re going to find D8.

Scores Lb f cf
40-42 39.5-42.5 1 1
43-45 42.5-45.5 1 2
46-48 45.5-48.5 2 4
49-51 48.5-51.5 3 7
52-54 51.5-54.5 6 13
55-57 54.5-57.5 7 20
58-60 57.5-60.5 15 35
61-63 60.5-63.5 8 43
64-65 63.5-65.5 7 50
∑f = 50
𝑟∑𝑓 8(50)
a. 10
= 10
= 40
b. lb = 60.
c. cf = 35
d. f = 8
e. i = 63.5-60.5=3
𝑟∑𝑓
−𝑐𝑓
Dr = lb + ⌊ 10 ⌋𝑖
𝑓
40−35
= 60.5+⌊ ⌋3
8
= 60.5+1.9
D8 = 62.4

Okay! Very good!

1. Motivation

Alright, let’s have a group activity, I will group

you into three and each group will have a jigsaw
puzzle and all you need to do is to assemble the
pieces of pictures to reveal the rest of the image.

Did you get it?

Group 1:

Group 2:
Group 3:

After the picture was formed the students are

going to post the revealed picture on the Group 1:
blackboard.

- Formula

Group 2:

- Grouped

Group 3:

- Calculator

B. Developmental Activities:

1. Activity

Alright class, let’s have another activity. Are

you ready?
Yes Ma’am!
I have here an incomplete table taken from the
scores of Grade 10 students.

I need participants to complete the data.

Direction:
Fill up the missing values to complete the data.
Scores lb f cf

15-19 14.5-19.5 IIII-III 8 13
20-24 19.5-24.5 IIII-II 7 20

30-34 29.5-34.5 IIII-I 6 30
35-39 34.5-39.5 IIII 5 35
∑f = 35

2. Analysis

Did you enjoy the activity?

Yes Ma’am!
Its’ easy right?
Yes Ma’am!
So, how did you do it?
We found out that the missing values in the
column 1(scores) are easy to find if we know the
interval.
So, the interval really matters, right?
Yes Ma’am!
In second column, what did you found?
We found out that lower boundary depends on
the class of the data or the scores, without the
scores we can’t find the lower boundary.
The third column is the hardest part in the
data right? No Ma’am! We just tally the quantities or
the frequencies.
Okay! You’re going to find the missing values
in the fourth column right? What did you do?
The frequency is determined in each class by
counting the tally.
How about in the fifth column?
We add the frequencies. The total frequency
should be equal to the number of quantities
Very well!

We already discussed Quartiles and Deciles

right? Yes Ma’am!
Since we already discussed Quartiles and
Deciles, Can you define what Percentiles is?
Percentile are values that divide a set of data
into 100 parts
What is the formula in getting percentiles?

𝑟∑𝑓
−𝑐𝑓
Pr = lb + ⌊ 100 ⌋𝑖
𝑓

Very good!
𝑟∑𝑓
Why does in the formula: , divided into
100
100? Because Percentiles divides the distribution
into a hundred parts.
Very Good!

3. Abstraction

What is a Percentile?
 A percentile (or a centile) is a measure used
in statistics indicating the value below which a
given percentage of observations in a group of
observations fall. For example, the 20th
percentile is the value (or score) below which
20% of the observations may be found.
 Values of the variable that divide a ranked set
into 100 subsets

The formula:
𝑟∑𝑓
−𝑐𝑓
Pr = lb + ⌊ 100 ⌋𝑖
𝑓

Where:
 lb = lower boundary of the percentile class
 ∑ 𝑓 = sum of the frequencies
 cf = cumulative frequency of the lower
class next to quartile class
 f = frequency
 i = class interval

Example:

Scores of 20 students in their final test in

mathematics are the following:

Scores f
10-14 5
15-19 8
20-24 7 Scores lb f cf
25-29 4 10-14 9.5-14.5 5 5

35-39 5 20-24 19.5-24.5 7 20
25-29 25.5- 29.5 4 24
Find P36. 30-34 30.5-34.5 6 30
35-39 35.5-39.5 5 35
∑f = 35

P36
𝑟∑𝑓 36 (35)
a. = = 12.6
100 100
b. lb = 14.5
c. cf = 5
d. f =8
e. i =5
𝑟∑𝑓
−𝑐𝑓
Pr = lb + ⌊ 100 ⌋𝑖
𝑓
12.6−5
P36 = 14.5 + ⌊ ⌋5
8
P36 = 14.5 +4.75
P36 = 19.25
4. Application

Okay, let’s try if you already know how to find

Percentiles in a data.

Using the same data try to find P75 and P80.
