MATERIALS AND METHODS

2.1: Establishment of Tthe Study Site

Figure 1. Shows the location of brgy. San Juan in Hinatuan Surigao del Sur
in which the study will take place.

2.2: Preparation Of The Required Materials

Figure 2: The materials for the samplingneeded

Picture A: Fiber glass measuring tapes are durable, flexible, and resistant to
stretching, making them a reliable tool for precise measuring of he sampling
area.
Picture B: Twine rope can be used as a guide for making the corners, helping to
ensure accurate and consistent plotting.
Picture C: Using net bag in hand picking to prevent shell loss and decrease
handling time.
Picture D: Using branches in plotting the area can delineate the boundaries and
making it easier to identify and measure the area accurately.
Picture E: Using digital camera in identifying gastropods in mangrove area can
facilitate accurate documentation and identification of species.
2.3: Plotting Tthe Area Oof Study
• The researchers will plot the designated area of the study with help of the
required tools for use.
• A total of three belt transects will be plot along the river from the shore line.
• Each transect will have a 2 meter of apartment from each other.
• Inside each (100mx3m) plot, a total of three quadrat (1mx1m) quadrat will be
measure for a random gathering of species Inside.

each 100mx3m plot are the sampling sites.
2.4: Data Collection
• The researchers will gather all kinds of gastropods through handpicking and the
help of net bag to ensure not to lose any shell.
• Using the digital camera to facilitate accurate documentation.
• Proper identification and classification of the gastropods through the help of
BIOPRO software.

genus, species, and common name.

2.5: Data Analysis

• Richness and Evenness of the gastropods in the selected area of the study will
be also obtainobtained using the exact formulae.
Formula:
The calculation of gastropods abundance
D = Ni / A
Where Ni is the number of the individuals Gastropods and A is the total are
(m^2).
• Calculation for diversity index
Formula:

Where Ni is the number of types of individuals and Nis Total number of

individuals.

• The uniformity index is calculated using the Evenness – index formula

Formula:

Where H’ is index of species diversity and S is number of types of organisms.
