ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Geology established in 2017 at Periyar University's Post Graduate Extension Centre in
Dharmapuri, initiated its academic activities by offering the M.Sc. Applied Geology program. Currently, the department
provides a two-year M.Sc. Applied Geology and Ph.D. programs. The Department continually updates its course
curricula and syllabi to keep pace with recent advancements in geological science and to address the demands of
industries and the institutes and R & D. Research activities in the department began in 2017 and have been ongoing
since then starting from the academic year 2017-18, the Department of Geology has been actively operational. Faculty
members of the department have made significant contributions to the field by publishing their research articles many
reputed international and national journals with high impact factors, such as Marine Pollution Bulletin, Environmental
Assessment Monitoring, Data in Brief, and the Indian Journal of Geo-Marine Science, and many others..

ABOUT THE WINGS & 2023

The world innovative neoteric geological sciences with the motto of stimulating the scientific knowledge in the
field ofGeology. The first program under this umbrella was held at the Periyar University Centre for PG & Research
Studies in Dharmapuri, 635 205, from February 1 to 3, 2023. It drew more than 210 Geology students, including 60
female participants, from various colleges and universities from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Puducherry. The program
featured distinguished guests, including the Registrar of Periyar University, Salem, Shri Mayank Agarwal, Regional
Director of the Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD), Department of Atomic Energy,
Government of India, Bangalore as the Chief Guest.
 It attained its successes by the supporter many sponsors include Thriveni Earth Movers, AMD, Geo Exploration
and Mining Solutions, PR Mines, PR HI The Concrete Mix, Mahalakshmi Textiles, Pachamuthu Group of Institutions,
Sree Ramakrishana Electricals, Bannari Amman Group, SVB Iyangars Bakery, DRCS, Hotel PKP Grand, Adhavan
Apparel, Vivek Textails, Sri Krishna Allied Health Science Institute, and Adyaman TV, Dharmapuri.

WINGS – the student aimed It at to encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing, and recognition among geology
enthusiasts, thereby enhancing the understanding and appreciation of this scientific discipline. The major goal of this
gathering was to bring together undergraduate and postgraduate students from many upcoming growing institutions and
provide them the opportunity to listens to the lectures by removed Geologists from academia and professional
organizations. Following each lecture, the presenters engaged the students with pertinent questions about their
presentations and offered price on the spot to the answerer. The program also featured some activities such as paper
and poster presentations, working models, and quiz programs in both team and individual formats, encompassing a
variety of innovative geology topics and branches. The cash Prizes were distributed to the Winners of each events. The
program culminated with an Overall Championship Prize of Rs. 25,000, which was awarded to the successful students
and teams from various colleges and universities.

WINGS-2024

The (WINGS 2024) World Innovative Neoteric Geological Sciences is planned to conduct from 7th Feb to 9th
Feb 2024 in the Department of Geology Periyar University Centre for Post Graduate and Research Studies,
Dharmapuri- 635 205. The WINGS 2024 includes Series of Lectures, Poster & Paper Presentations, Working
Models, QUIZ, Debate, Surprising Geological Events, certainly bring out the latest talent of the students and also
will be a forum of learning for the faculty’s member. The Department of Geology draws the attention of the energetic
students and enthusiastic faculty members. Cherishment and enlightenment coming soon.
