1.0 OBJECTIVE

1.1 To ensure that the Hydrostatic Test activities are conducted safely and in accordance with project

specifications and applicable standards.

1.2 To ensure that all personnel adhere to the basic standard of workmanship and report presentation for

the tank hydrostatic test.

2.0 SCOPE

2.1 This procedure describes the general and specific requirements for performing the required hydrostatic
test after completion of the fixed cone roof tanks.

2.2 This procedure shall be applied to the requirements of hydrostatic test and shall be read in conjunction
with the approved Inspection and Test Plan (ITP).

4.8 PPE : Personal Protective Equipment

5.0 REPONSIBILITY

5.1 Site Manager


Responsible for the overall management of the tank hydrostatic test works, including safety aspects.

5.2 HSE Manager


Responsible for the monitoring of HSE performance of all personnel involved during the tank hydrostatic
test works.

5.3 Safety Crew


Adequate safety controllers and assistants shall be on site at all working locations while the hydrostatic
test activities are in progress.

5.4 Construction Manager


Responsible for overall construction activities, controlling, advising and supervision the erection crew to
see the hydrostatic test in progress with proper quality, safe work environment and completion on time.

5.5 QA/QC Manager Responsible for reviewing the work procedures, inspection records and performing
related inspection in accordance with the inspection and test plan (ITP) related to the tank hydrostatic
test.

5.6 QA/QC Crew


Responsible for assistance to the QA/QC Manager during inspection works on site. Shall be on site at all
working hours, to ensure the tank hydrostatic work in progress is according to the specifications. He shall
report day-to-day activities to the QA/QC Manager.

5.7 Tank Supervisor

Responsible for implementation of the tank hydrostatic works in accordance with applicable specifications

and this procedure.

6.0 PROCEDURE

The hydrostatic test shall be performed in accordance with API 650 Para.7.3.6.

6.1 General Notes

6.1.1 This specification covers the filling, settlement measurement and testing procedure of water storage tank
for ABHA PHASE II Water Transmission System.

6.1.2 The tanks covered by this procedure are as follows ;

6.1.3 The hydrostatic test shall be performed in accordance with API 650 Para.7.3.6

6.1.4 The test water shall be fresh as possible

6.1.5 Before any external piping connected to the tank,the tank shall be filled with water and

inspected frequently during the filling operation

6.1.6 The tanks shall be left filled with water for a period over 24hours enough for check,

inspection and settlement of the foundation

6.1.7 The foundation leveling shall be taken when the tank is empty

6.2 Preparation

6.2.1 While water filling or draining is performed, nozzles and manholes on the tank roof shall be
kept opened to avoid the destruction of the tank roof due to an excessive breating load

6.3 Water filling of tank


6.3.1 The water fill rate shall be determined in accordance with the availability of test
wate, the capacity of the test pump. The stability of the subgrade and the
monitoring of settlement together with other matters pertaining to safety but to a
maximum rising level of 460mm / hour until Max. Liquid Level is reached

6.3.2 The shell fittings and lower piping are to be checked for leaks and signs of distress, if any
leaks appear, water is to be lowered to about 300mm below the leak, make repairs and
retest

6.3.2 The shell fittings and lower piping are to be checked for leaks and signs of distress, if any
leaks appear, water is to be lowered to about 300mm below the leak, make repairs and
retest

6.3.3 During the water test, the foundation settlement shall be checked at 6 hours intervals and
the record shall be submitted to client for information

6.3.4 The settlement shall be measured at every 10 meter of the circumferential length of the
shell bottom course with the minimum of 4 points.

6.3.5 Frequency of settlement measurements shall be taken as fllows

1, Before water charge


2, During filling
3, After water dicharge

6.3.6 Water filling shall be stopped at the intervals listed below , Filling shall be halted during
these periods for 2 hours and settlements taken

a. At water height : 25% of full test height


b. At water height : 50% of full test height
c. At water height : 75% of full test height
d. At water height : 100% of full test height

6.4 WATER DISCHARGE

6.4.1 Roof manholes and fittings are to be opened so as to have as large an area as the tank outlet.

6.4.1 Water is to be drained until about 600mm remains in the tank

6.5. AFTER WATER DISCHARGE

6.5.1 The lebel of the tank foundation shall be taken once after water dicharge and sttlement

6.5.2 After the water filling test, any standing water, or other dirt left in the tank shall be cleaned out so
that the tank interior is broom clean and read for use.

6.5.3 Before, during and after filling the tank with water, check the elevations around the bottom
and imrnediately report any differential of excessive settlement to the Client, All elevations
should be reference to a temporary retrievable bench mark

6.5.4 If tank is anchored, retighten anchor bolts, Inspect the shell, including fittings and lower piping for

leaks and signs of distress, If any leaks appear, lower the water lebel about 300mm below the leak,
make repairs and retest, If any distress is found, open the roof manhole and/or other roof fittings
and immediately start to drain all water form the tank.

6.5.5 Hold the height of test water until the inspector is satisfied

6.5.6 Open roof manhole and/or other roof fittings having as large an area as the water outlet, and drain
all water from the tank.
