In popular culture, fandom is a universal phenomenon.

Everybody has at least

one pastime, topic of conversation, or interest, be it sports, celebrities, or TV shows.
However, at what point can being an excessive admirer, or fanatic, become
problematic? This subject is concerning because over the past few decades, a variety of
fan bases or fandoms of particular films, novels, etc., have come under fire for their
intense passion and dedication. There are many who believe that these fan bases and
the lifestyles they lead are unhealthy, that these fanatics prefer to live in denial of reality
and devote their lives to something that benefits society neither personally nor
professionally.

Zeinab Harake’s fandom is considered to be one the biggest fandoms in Philippines.

Zeinab, who was born on December 11, 1998, is half Lebanese and half Filipino. In her
debut YouTube video, she gives her entire name, Zeinab Mohamad Ocampo Harake.
Her kuya, Wessam Harake, and their bunso, Rana Harake, are her two siblings at the
moment.

What Does Being a "True" Fan Mean? Fandoms are a phenomenon that are culturally
produced and aim to differentiate one fan from another. According to Baym (2007),
referenced in McCudden (2011), it is characterized as a “collective of people organized
socially around their shared appreciation of a pop culture object or objects”).

Since "fandom is a common feature of the popular culture in industrial societies," as

stated in the book Cultural Economy of Fandom, its existence cannot be disputed (Fiske
1992, 30). Academics have had difficulty providing a general scholarly definition of
fandom. Fiske's research revealed a connection between fandom and cultural
formations. Fiske defined fans or fandom members as productive, active, and
participating as a result of the notion that fandom and cultural forms are related. In the
value system, fandom is typically linked to the cultural preferences of the oppressed
group that the ruling class has disempowered.
People who have similar interests, lifestyles, attitudes, and views come together as a
result of these social formations. Upon similar interests, lifestyles, values, and beliefs,
these people come to form what is known as a cultural community. Fans develop and
share cultural works with others that are based on their performances in the framework
of a cultural community. The conventions within fan culture shape these performances.

The fandom treats the cultural works as artifacts that have shaped the fanbase and
helped to define its identity. "Assembling original fan fiction, summarizing episodes,
debating subtexts, recording their own soundtracks, and producing their own films are
all possible for fans of a popular television series [and/or film]" (Jenkins, 2004, 34). And
in Zeinab’s fandoms case was summarizing and collecting her vlogs or episodes posted
in Youtube channels.
