CHAPTER –LAWS OF MOTION
CLASS XI

Q1 Sand is thrown on tracks covered with snow. Why?

Q2 Which brakes are more effective in a bicycle : large or small ?

Q3 What is the role of ball bearings in the modular kitchen drawers?

Q4 Calculate the impulse necessary to stop a 1500 kg car travelling at 90 km/h.

Q5 A body m1 of mass 10 kg is placed on a smooth horizontal table. It is connected to a string

which passes over a light frictionless pulley and carries a body m2 of mass 5kg at the other end.
Find the accelerationof the bodies when the nail fixed on the table is removed? Find the tension in
the string

i) During motion of the bodies and

ii) When the bodies stop

Q6 A mass of 200 Kg is resting on a rough inclined plane of 30 0. If coefficient of friction is 1/√𝟑,

find the least and the largest forces acting parallel to the plane to keep the mass in equilibrium.

Q7 For taking off, an aeroplane runs for 100 m to reach a speed of 80 km/h. If mass of aeroplane is
10 4 kg, and coefficient of friction between wheels and ground is 0.2, find the maximum force
required by the engine to take off ,assuming that it accelerates uniformly.

Q8 Find the maximum value of force F in the figure so that the given block does not move.

Q9 Block A of 100N rests on africtionless inclined plane of slope angle 30 0. A flexible cord attached
to A passes over a frictionless pulley and is connected to block B of weight W. Find the weight W
for which the sytem is in equilibrium.

Q10 Give reasons:

a) A boat is pushed away when a man jumps out of it.

b) A single isolated force cannot exist in nature.

Q11 Represent graphically variation of momentum with velocity for mass being constant.

Q12 Calculate the impulse acting on the particle for t=0,0<t<4 and t>4 s? Given that m= 2kg.
