UNDERSTANDING COVENANT

RECONNECTING TO THE GENERATIONAL COVENANT

THE STONE OF WALKING IN THE FULNESS OF WHO WE
ARE IN CHRIST

RECAP

With every family lineage, there is a grace that is imparted by God to each
family lineage.

This grace gets passed down the family lineage and becomes the ‘signature
mark’ of the family bloodline.

Satan will often try to infiltrate the family bloodline and interrupt the grace
on the family lineage by capitalizing on the misdemeanors of those who
become the ‘weak link’ in the family lineage.

We noted how Josiah reached back 14 generations, to reconnect to the grace

bestowed upon his family lineage.

We learn from Josiah that in order to ‘reboot’ the grace on the family lineage,
it will be necessary to keep certain covenantal obligations, so as to possess
what rightfully belongs to a generation or a nation.

This means the fate of the fulfillment of the promises of God in family lineage
or even that nation rests on that persons shoulders.

The period of Joshua’s leadership is representative of this truth, wherein

Joshua leads a new generation, to possess what the former generation could
not possess because of its disobedience. The ‘Joshua generation’ needed to
embrace certain the truths of God’s word, that they needed to live by. These
truths are symbolized by the twelve stones in Joshua 4:1-9
Josh 4:1-9 NIV
1 When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the LORD said to
Joshua,
2 "Choose twelve men from among the people, one from each tribe,
3 and tell them to take up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan from
right where the priests stood and to carry them over with you and put them
down at the place where you stay tonight."
4 So Joshua called together the twelve men he had appointed from the
Israelites, one from each tribe,
5 and said to them, "Go over before the ark of the LORD your God into
the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder,
according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites,
6 to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you,
'What do these stones mean?'
7 tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the
covenant of the LORD. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan
were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel
forever."
8 So the Israelites did as Joshua commanded them. They took twelve
stones from the middle of the Jordan, according to the number of the tribes
of the Israelites, as the LORD had told Joshua; and they carried them over
with them to their camp, where they put them down.
9 Joshua set up the twelve stones that had been a in the middle of the
Jordan at the spot where the priests who carried the ark of the covenant
had stood. And they are there to this day.

WHAT DO THE TWELVE STONES REPRESENT?

The twelve stones taken from the river are spiritually quickened biblical
truths- truths that may have lain dormant, but now by the power of the Holy
Spirit come alive during times of divine visitation.
1. The stone of HUMULTY AND SIMPLICITY

2. The stone of IMPARTATION

3. The stone of INTERCESSORY PRAYER

4. The stone of RECONCILING THE GENERATIONS

5. The stone of RESTORING MEN TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY

6. The stone of HEALING, MIRACLES, SIGNS AND WONDERS AND

THE OPERATION OF GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT

7. The stone of HOLINESS

8. The stone of RECONCILIATION- racial, transgenerational

cooperation

9. The stone of STRATEGIC LEVEL SPIRITUAL WAREFAFE

10.The stone of BELIEVRS WALKING IN THE FULNESS OF WHO

THEY ARE IN CHRIST

11.The stone of REAPING THE HARVEST OF SOULS

12.The stone of REACHING CITIES FOR CHRIST

THE STONE OF WALKING IN THE FULNESS OF WHO WE ARE IN

CHRIST

For us to walk in the fulness of who we are in Christ, we need to embrace the
integrity of the word of God.
2 Cor 3:18 NKJV
18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the
Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just
as by the Spirit of the Lord.

James 1:22-24 NKJV

22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man
observing his natural face in a mirror;
24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind
of man he was.

The word of God that is our mirror, becomes the transforming agent, that
transforms us into the same image as our Lord Jesus Christ, so that we can
walk into the fulness of who we are in Christ.

We need to study it, internalize it and become a doer of the word; this will
result in us living in the fulness of who we are in Christ.

1. THE VALUE OF THE WORD OF GOD

#1 THE WORD OF GOD IS A VITAL PART OF OUR SPIRITUAL

GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

#2 THE WORD OF GOD WAS CENTRAL IN THE MINISTRY OF OUR

LORD JESUS CHRIST; as He went about teaching, preaching, and healing

#3 THE MINISTRY OF THE EARLY CHURCH followed the same pattern

wherein the people gladly received the word and continued steadfastly in the
apostles doctrine (Acts 2:41,42); Ac 4:31 tells us that the apostles spoke the
word of God with boldness

#4 THE WORD OF GOD IS VITAL FOR OUR LIVES

 It is God’s primary way of speaking to us and it is profitable- 2 Tim

4:16 NIV
 It is food for our spirits- Mt 4:4
 We therefore grow spiritually by feeding on the word of God- 1 Pet 2:2
 It is what God uses to uphold us- Heb 1:3; Acts 20:32
 It provides guidance for us to walk in the ways of God- Ps
119:11,105
 It is like a seed that is incorruptible- Mk 4:3; 1 Pet 1:23
 It is like a small seed, that eventually grows into a big tree- Mk 4:30-32
 It brings healing and deliverance- Ps 107:20
 If you are a doer of the word, you will build your house on a solid rock
foundation- Lk 6:46-49
 The word will build your faith- Rom 10:17
 The word of God is the offensive weapon we use against satanic attacks-
Mt 4:4; Eph 6:17b
 When you prioritize it, it will impart what no one can take from you-
Mk 10:38-42

2. HOW DO WE INTERNALIZE THE WORD OF GOD THAT IT

MAY TRANSFORM US?

Ps 119:11KJV
11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
How do you hide God’s word in your heart?

This means that the word of God that we get exposed to, must get absorbed
into our spiritual system, so that it can release its transformation power

This is like eating food- there is ingestion, digestion and then assimilation

It is only the assimilated food that is of benefit to you

This process on the spiritual side is well illustrated in the parable of the
Sower- Mk 4:3ff cf Lk 8:15

Luke 8:15 NLT

15 And the seeds that fell on the good soil represent honest, good-hearted
people who hear God's word, cling to it, and patiently produce a huge
harvest.

MESSAGE
15 "But the seed in the good earth — these are the good-hearts who seize
the Word and hold on no matter what, sticking with it until there's a
harvest.

AMP
15 But as for that [seed] in the good soil, these are [the people] who,
hearing the Word, hold it fast in a just (l noble, virtuous) and worthy heart,
and steadily bring forth fruit with patience.

Jesus expands on this process in John 8:31,32

John 8:31-32 KJV

31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in
my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

AMP
31 So Jesus said to those Jews who had believed in Him, If you abide in
My word [hold fast to My teachings and live in accordance with them], you
are truly My disciples.

MESSAGE
31 Then Jesus turned to the Jews who had claimed to believe in him. "If
you stick with this, living out what I tell you, you are my disciples for sure.
32 Then you will experience for yourselves the truth, and the truth will free
you."

This suggests that that only hearing God’s word is not enough, we must find a
way of continuing in it, by internalising it and practicing it- because the bible
way of knowing something is not by sense knowledge, but it is by revelation
knowledge [explain]

3. DEVELOPING THE DISCIPLINE OF A QUIET TIME

WE NEED TO DEVELOP THE DISCIPLINE OF A QUIET TIME OR
HAVING DEVOTIONS, SO AS TO BUILD THE REALITY OF GOD’S
WORD INTO OUR LIVES

#a Why do we need a quiet time?

 During the quiet time you develop the most important relationship in
your life
 Having a quiet time makes you develop the most important habit of all
time
 During your quiet time you draw near to God and He draws near to
you- Js 4:8
 A quiet time makes read the most important book
 A quiet time is your personal school of the Word
 During you quiet time you increase your personal knowledge of the
scriptures
 During your quiet time you experience the presence of God

#b. SOME IDEAS FROM MOSES’ QUIET TIME

Exodus 34: 1 - 10 NASB

o v. 2 ..be ready in the morning

o v.2 ..present yourself there to me on the top of the mountain
o v.3..no man is to come with you
o v.4..Moses rose up early in the morning and went to the mountain
o v.5..The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him
o v.5…as he called upon the name of the Lord
o v.6..then the Lord passed by him
o v.8..Moses made haste to bow low towards the earth and worship
o v.9…Moses makes specific requests to God
v.10…God responds

#c. WHAT WILL YOU NEED?

1. A bible
2. A notebook v.1 “Hew the two tables of stone.”
3. A appropriate time v.2 “..be ready in the morning..
“…and come up in the morning..”

The best time for quiet time is in the morning.

(It must be regular – an integral part of your regular routine)

#d. EIGHT STEPS TO AN EFFECTIVE QUIET TIME

1. Pray to begin
2. Read
3. Meditate
4. Use your bible guide (optional)
5. Write down lessons
6. Pray to the end
7. Memory verse
8. Be a doer of the word

4. SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO MEDITATE IN THE WORD OF

GOD

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways My
ways,” declares the LORD. “For as the heavens are higher than the
earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than
your thoughts” Isa. 55:8-9

If my thoughts are contrary to God’s thoughts, then I must exchange

my thinking with God’s thinking.

For that process, He has given us His inspired, inerrant, and

authoritative Word.
Meditating on the scripture, is what will transform my thinking to
conform to God’s thinking

Joshua 1:8 NASB ‘This book of the law shall not depart from your
mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be
careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make
your way prosperous, and then you will have success’

Psalm 1:2 NASB ‘But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His
law he meditates day and night’.

Psalm 4:4 NASB ‘Tremble, and do not sin; Meditate in your heart
upon your bed, and be still. Selah’.

Satan is opposed to and works against us developing and maintaining

the mind of Christ, through studying and meditating on the Word.

He wants to keep us out of the Word which is so essential to our ability

to avoid his delusions and those of the world system and to hear and
respond to the call of God on our lives.

DEFINITION OF MEDITATION

Meditation means “the act of focusing one’s thoughts: to ponder, think

on, muse, speak to ones 'self.”

Meditation consists of reflective thinking or contemplation, usually on a

specific subject to discern its meaning or significance or a plan of action.

Some synonyms would be:

 Contemplation
 Reflection
 Rumination
 deep thinking
 reciting
 remembering in the sense of keeping or calling something to mind for
the purpose of consideration, reflection, or meditation.

NOTE THESE VERSES:

Psalm 63:6 When I remember Thee on my bed, I meditate on Thee in

the night watches,

Psalm 77:11 I shall remember the deeds of the LORD; Surely I will
remember Thy wonders of old.

Psalm 78:42 They did not remember His power, The day when He
redeemed them from the adversary,

Psalm 143:5 I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Thy doings; I
muse on the work of Thy hands.

CONCLUSION

FOUR OBJECTIVES OF MEDITAING IN GOD’S WORD

1. Worship - It is designed to focus on the Lord and His works (Ps. 27:4;
77:12).

It is a place and space in our lives for communion with God.

It is a means of elevating the spiritual over the material world and the
world of activity

2. Instruction – It is designed to improve our understanding of the

Word and God’s ways as it applies to our lives
Ps. 49:3, Ps 119:27,97ff [understanding comes from the meditations of
his heart]

In meditation we exchange our thoughts with God's.

3. Motivation or Encouragement - It is designed to motivate and inspire

us in service and courage for the works God has called us to do (Josh.
1:7-8)

4. Transformation - It is designed to transform and change our lives. cf

Ps. 4:4; 19:14; 119:15; Rom. 12:2; Col. 3:1ff.

In Joshua 1:8, God promised Joshua success as part of the fruit of his
meditation on the Word

It is the success of obedient and godly living which experiences God’s

provision and deliverance from the enemies of this life.
