Parol Making Contest

I. Introduction

Seeing Christmas decorations is a sign that Christmas is coming. The joy and excitement
of the holiday season would be considerably enhanced in our school by hanging parols. It is said
that the traditional bamboo and paper parol or star lantern, is also considered to represent
optimism and benevolence in addition to the triumph of light over darkness.

II. Guidelines

• The parol's height and width, not including the tail, cannot exceed three (3) feet.

• The parol should be made out of small mountain dew bottles but the design and style
is allowed to enhance. It can have decorations using recycled materials.

• The parol can also have light decorations but should only be powered with batteries.

• The parol should only be constructed by the students and the adviser can only assist
them in creating it.

• To ensure that only students and teachers are participating in the making process, the
parol will not be permitted to leave the school.

• Any coloring materials are allowed.

III. Criteria for Judging

Originality – 20%
The parol has an outstanding and unique elements, style and symbolism.
Craftsmanship - 30%
The materials used are properly executed in an artistic and decorative manner.
Creativity- 20%
Colors, style, decorations and designs are expressed artistically.
Theme – 15%
The idea and meaning of the parol’s symbolism should be with touch of Christmas.
Overall Impact- 15%
The parol is appealing, stunning and can set moods of excitement.
