4. (a)

The diagram shows the position of A and B on a straight line where the distance of
AB = 100 m . A particle P moves from point A towards the right of A with an initial
velocity of 10 ms-1 and its subsequent velocity increases by 2 ms-1 per second. At the
same time , particle Q starts to move from B towards the right at constant velocity of
9 ms-1. Given P and Q start to move at the same time. Find
i) the velocity of P, if particle P overtakes particle Q after n seconds,

ii) the distance travelled by the particle P at the instant when P overtakes
particle Q. [2m]

Diagram above shows the sport rim designed by Amy. The three shaded regions are
congruent. It is given that the perimeter of a , b and c regions is 30π cm.

(a) In the diagram above, ABC is an isosceles triangle with AB = AC = 10 cm. PQRS is
a rectangle with P and Q are variable points on the line BC. S and R are variable
points on AB and AC respectively such that PQRS is always a rectangle .
BC = 16 cm, SR = y cm and RQ = x cm.

(a) Based on table, construct a table for the values of log10 x and log10 y. [2m]

(c) Use the graph, find the value of

9. Diagram below shows part of the curve y = f(x) which passes through a point A(2, 5).

Given that f’(x) = - 2x , find

(b) the area of the shaded region P. [4m]

(c) the volume of revolution , in terms of π, when the shaded region Q bounded by
the curve, the straight line y = 5 and the y-axis is rotated through 360 o about the
y-axis. [3m]

10. (a) 80% of the shots performed by a basketball player always scores the point.
(i) Find the probability that the shots performed by the player scores the
point not more than 3 out of 8 shots.

(ii) Find the minimum number of shots that the player has to performed
so that the probability of scoring at least once is greater than 0.92.

(b) The radii of the wheels of cars produced by a factory are normally
distributed . For safety reasons, only wheels with radii between 11.02 cm and

12.52 cm will be approved. At a certain time, it is found that 1% of the wheels


are rejected because their radii are too short , whereas 5% of them are
rejected because their radii are too long. Calculate the mean and standard
deviation of the radii of the wheels of the cars. [5m]

(b) Solve the equation tan2 x = 7 – 2 sec x for 0o ≤ x ≤ 360o. [3m]
(c) Sketch a graph for y = |cos 2x | and 4y = x for 0 ≤ x ≤ π using the same
axes. Hence, state the number of solutions for the equation 4 |cos 2x| = x.

(a) Find the values of x, y and z. [3m]

(b) The composite index for the prices of the items in the year 2007 based on the
year 2005 is 120.4. Calculate the value of m where m is an integer. [2m]

(c) From the year 2007 to the year 2009, the price of item A increases 10%, the price
of item B remains the same and the price of item C decreases by 4%. Calculate
the composite index for the prices of all the items in the year 2009 based on the
year 2007. [2m]

(d) Given the total price of the items is RM 25.00 in the year 2005, find its
corresponding price in the year 2009. [3m]

(a) Diagram below shows a prism shaped roof with a rectangular base PQRS. The
inclined surface PQUT is a square with sides 12 cm and the inclined surface RSTU
is a rectangle. PTS is a uniform cross section of the prism. QST is a plane in the
prism.

It is given that PST = 37o and TPS = 45o. Find


(i) the length, in cm, of ST, [2m]
(ii) the area of the QST plane. [5m]

(b) A triangle Q’R’S’ has a different shape from the triangle QRS such that RS’ = 8 cm,
QR = 10.3 cm and R’Q’S’ = RQS.
(i) Sketch the triangle Q’R’S’
(ii) Hence, calculate Q’S’R’. [3m]

14. Diagram below shows two fixed points, O and A on a horizontal straight line.

Particle P moves along the straight line and passes through point A with a distance of
s m from point O after t seconds. Its velocity, v m s-1, at the time is given by
v = 6t – 4. [Assume motion to the right is positive]
(a) Given s = 6 m when t = 1 s, calculate
(i) the distance of OA,
(ii) the distance of particle P from a after 2 seconds,
(iii) the velocity of particle P when it returns to A, assuming the distance is
the same as OA. [7m]

(b) (i) Find the range of values of t for the movement of particle P towards O.
(ii) Hence, show that particle P does not reach point O in its movement.

15. Use graph paper to answer this question.


A tuition centre will organise a holiday intensive class comprising of x number of
female students and y number of male students. The fee for a female student is RM
100 and male student is RM 120. The composition of students for the intensive class
is based on the following constraints:
I The maximum number of students is 100
II the ratio of female students to male students is at least 1 : 4.
III The total fees collected is not less than RM 6000.

(a) Write three inequalities , other than x ≥ 0 and y ≥ 0, which satisfy all the above
constraints. [3m]
(b) Using a scale of 2 cm to 10 students on both axes, construct and shade the region
R which satisfies all the above constraints. [3m]

(c) Using the graph constructed in (b), find


(i) the minimum number of male students if the ration of female students to
male students is 1 : 4.
(ii) the maximum profit obtained if the tuition centre can get a profit of 20%
from the total fees collected. [4m]
