and/or to be used in sync with
lesson presentation, shall be kept
open and minimized.
•Home assignments and homework
worksheets to be solved and submit
it to the teacher.
Learning Objectives

The student will be able to:

 define reflection of light
 describe what real images are
Skills developed

The student will be able to develop the following skills:

 remembering
 understanding
 communicating
 thinking
 critical thinking
 social responsibility

Teacher will note down the responses on the board.

Suppose at night, there is an electricity shutdown in your
area. Will you be able to read a book in dark?

It is difficult to read a book because we cannot see the

objects.
Teacher will explain the KWL chart and ask the students to create a
table and fill K and W column in their subject notebook.
Fill the K and W from the KWL chart in
Subject notebook

K – what I already Know about my topic

W – what I Want to know about my topic
Terminology/ Word stock

ray, normal, real image, virtual Word
image, inverted Stock

Teacher writes words stock on the right side

of the board.
E
explore
When the power has been restored are we able to see the
objects clearly?

Yes

What enables us to see the objects clearly?

We need light to see things around us.

We shall study about
Light
__________________________
• Light travels in a straight
line
• Reflection of light
• Real and virtual images
• Characteristics of image
formed by a plane
mirror
E
explains
When light falls on any object, the object reflects the
light falling on it in all directions. When the sunlight
reflected by the object enters our eyes, we are able
to see the object.
How does this light travel?
Light

When we shine a torch in a dark room at night, we

see that the beam of light produced by the torch,
travels straight in the darkness.

This shows that light travels in a straight line.

What happens when you
throw a tennis ball at a
wall?

When we throw a tennis ball at a wall it hits the surface

and bounces back.

Similarly, when light falls on the surface it reflects.

Reflection of light
• When light falls on the surface of an object, the object
sends the light back.
• The process of sending back the light rays which fall on
the surface of an object is called reflection of light.
• We can see image in a well-polished, shining surface
due to reflection of light.
Reflection of light
• You must have seen reflections of trees or buildings in
still water of pond or lakes.
• This is because still water and stainless steel also
reflect light.
Reflection of light by plane mirror
Characteristics of image formed by a plane mirror

The image formed in a plane mirror is

• Of the same size and shapes as the object
• Virtual and erect
• Laterally inverted with respect to the object
• At the same distance from the mirror as the object
E
elaborates
Play video 1 to explain about real and virtual
images
Answer the questions based on the
video shown

i. The object from where an incident rays start are

called as _____________.
ii. When is the point image called a real image?
iii. What is virtual image?
Answers

i. The object from where an incident rays start are

called as real objects.
ii. If the light rays after reflection, actually meet at a
point, then the point is called a real image.
iii. If the light rays after reflection appear to come from
the point, then point image is called a virtual image.

Q. Define reflection of light.

Q. What are real images?

Q. What are the characteristics of image formed by a

plane mirror?

Q. What happens when light falls on any object?

The students will note down the questions and write the
answers in their subject notebook. The teacher may
refer TSD.
Recapitulation

travels straight in the darkness.
• The process of sending back the light rays which fall
on the surface of an object is called reflection of
light.
Learner’s Outcome

• Teacher ask the students what

they have learnt and write the
responses on the board.
• For example:
I have learnt to
 define reflection of light
 describe what real images
are
Home Assignment
