way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” The Bible teaches this
as we also know that by the age of 14, researchers say that they are “the years when
priorities, attitudes, and beliefs about everything are shaped.” 1 There is a need to teach
parents to play a role in the spiritual development of their children and partner with the
church’s ministry to form the identity, beliefs, and attitudes of the children while they are
still young. In my country, young people started to have this thinking of same-sex
attraction and the LGBTQ community is present. Training up a child in the way he should
go is the only promising way of keeping our generation in the precepts of the Lord.
The Global Youth Culture2 research says that “around half of teens believe gender is
primarily based on the sex with which a person is born. The other half believes it is
sexual attraction.” This is very crucial to see Christian teenagers think the same way as
the non-Christians.
The hope is that if we teach parents to disciple their children when they are still young,
this worldview will change and have a generation that has the biblical view of sex. The
GYC declared that “Being a Committed Christian increases the influence on a teen’s
opinion of the gender issue.” And again, the same research revealed that “family
members are the top influence when it comes to questions about the meaning of life or
what is right and wrong.” This is the point that motivates us to put emphasis on family
ministry and prepare parents to face the giants that are killing our children, in order not to
lose a generation.
