the value of the force (in N) required in order to keep the cylinder at rest.

2. A double pulley shaped device mounted on a horizontal frictionless axis is used to lift a 30 kg box as
shown in figure. The outer radius R of the device is 0.50 m, an the radius r of the hub is 0.20 m. When
a constant horizontal force of magnitude 152 N is applied in the left direction to a rope wrapped around
the outer circumference of the device, the box, which is suspended from a rope wrapped around the
hub, has an upward acceleration of magnitude 0.80 m/s2. The rotational inertia (in kg-m2) of the device

3. A circular disc of mass 300 gm and radius 20 cm can rotate freely about a vertical axis passing through
its centre of O. A small insect of mass 100 gm is initially at a point A on the disc (which is initially
stationary) the insect starts walking from rest along the rim of the disc with such a time varying relative
velocity that the disc rotates in the opposite direction with a constant angular acceleration = 2p rad/s2.
After some time T, the insect is back at the point A. The angle rotated (in rad) up to this time is q. Find
numerical value of q/pT2.
4. On a smooth table two particles of mass m each, travelling with a velocity v0 in opposite directions, strike the
