Course Title: Elective 2 (Data Mining)

I. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

It is an introduction to the field of data mining (also known as knowledge discovery from data, or KDD for short). It focuses on
fundamental data mining concepts and techniques for discovering interesting patterns from data in various applications. It emphasizes
techniques for developing effective, efficient, and scalable data mining tools.

II. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES


At the end of the semester, the students are expected to:

1. Understand what is Data Mining, what kinds of data can be mined, what kinds of patterns can be mined, and what
kinds of applications are targeted.
2. Explain the major issues and what data mining can do in the real-world scenario.
3. Perform a scatter plot using excel.

E. Virtual Class Policies
1. Be on time. Login at least 10 minutes ahead of your scheduled online class.
2. Use a proper name when you enter the class. Do not use code names or other people's names.
3. Be prepared. Have your module, notebook and pen with you.
4. Go on mute. Mute your microphone when it is not your turn to speak.
5. Be well groomed. Fix your hair and wear appropriate clothes.
6. Respect everyone. Listen attentively to your teacher when she is discussing the lesson. Avoid doing things that might disrupt
the class.
7. Post only relevant messages and comments. Avoid using inappropriate words in all things you do online.
8. Maintain discipline and focus. Do not go to other sites nor do other activities.
9. Be updated. Make it a habit to check your Official Email, Google Classroom and
Facebook group for updates and announcements. Complete your activities and submit on time.
10. Participate and engage. Turn on your audio and don’t hesitate to ask questions to clarify things you don’t understand on the
