Primary Reflection

Yellow is a song by Coldplay, it is written in the key of B Major. "Yellow" has been called an alternative
rock and post-Britpop song. Coldplay released this song in their 2000 album ‘Parachutes’ and it was the
second single off the album. The message of this song is about how much the singer loves and being
devoted to someone, and they would do anything for that person. The song's lyrics describe all the
things a person will do to express their love and devotion for someone like the lyrics look how the stars
shine for you, everything you do they were all yellow, write a song for you, swim and jump across
obstacles, draw a line, and even sacrifice their life for their love ones.

Secondary Reflection

As I listen to Yellow by Coldplay, I realize that it speaks about love. He discusses the devotion and true
love of someone for another who is very important to them. For me, this song simply says that the lead
singer has fallen in love with someone he considers so beautiful. I believe that the song could symbolize
the brilliance and happiness of the relationship between the two people because the title of the song
“Yellow” represents joy and happiness, and it expresses the color of the shining stars, bright and
beautiful, and it shines for her. This proves that she's someone he appreciates and treasures so much. In
the song’s opening verse, “Look at the stars; look how they shine for you, and everything you do, they're
all yellow”, he expresses his appreciation for someone he loves so much that everything about her
shines as brightly as yellow. This verse shows the writer thinks about how important the other person is.
In the verse “Do you know for you that I bleed myself dry”, this verse means to me that when you love
someone, you would do anything for them, even if it bleeds themselves, and it shows that he doesn't
even care that his own well-being may be in trouble because he cares so much about her. Also, when he
says, “I jumped across for you”, I take that as indicating that he made some sort of sacrifice for their
relationship, that he may have left something behind or risked something for it. Furthermore, by using
“skin and bones”, the lead singer means he loves everything about her; even something plain like her
skin and bones turn into something so beautiful and shining to him. I feel like he's saying she's an angel
to him, beautiful both on the outside and inside. Her light has influenced him, and "it was all yellow."
And for that, he concludes, "You know, I love you so." Yellow represents that a good relationship can be
so happy and strong that their lives are nowhere near as important as their love for one another. There
are a lot of interpretations to this song, and that's a great thing about it, that it can be taken in so many
ways, but to me, I think it's about being truly in love with someone, that everything about that person is
shining like a yellow color, and loving them makes you truly happy.
