EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL ANALYSIS

This part pertains to the internal and external factors that influence Purr-Fect Mobile Pet

Grooming Services’ profitability, potentiality, and competitiveness.

II. External Factors ( Opportunities, threats)

A. Economic Forces

Opportunity: The increase in people’s spending on their pets

According to a survey on pet ownership conducted by Rakuten Insight in January 2022,

29 percent of respondents in the Philippines stated that they usually spent more than 500

Philippine pesos per month on pet products. The same survey revealed that around 79 percent of

respondents in the Philippines were pet owners. (Source: STATISTA)

As the number of pet owners who are willing to invest in their furry companions

continues to rise, our business stands to benefit significantly. This demographic serves as our

primary target market presents a promising opportunity for us. With this trend showing no signs

of slowing down, we can expect continued growth and success in catering to the needs and

desires of pet owners seeking quality products and services for their beloved animals.

Threat: The increasing number of pet groomers and grooming businesses

The pet grooming industry has been experiencing robust growth in recent years, with the

number of pet owners increasing globally. However, the industry is also facing several

challenges, including the increasing number of pet groomers and grooming businesses. (Source:

Craig Berman)

10
With the market becoming more and more competitive, it has become increasingly

difficult for our business to keep up. The rise in competition has presented a number of

challenges that we must navigate in order to maintain our position in the market. We are

constantly looking for ways to improve our products and services, streamline our operations, and

stay ahead of the competition. Despite these challenges, we remain committed to providing high-

quality products and services to our customers, and will continue to work tirelessly to ensure

Opportunity: The expansion of service offering

To remain competitive in the pet grooming industry, our business offers unique services

such as providing mobile applications that can be used to book appointments and grooming

services that we conveniently bring to the clients’ homes. This allows us to provide a more

personalized and convenient experience for our clients, which can help differentiate us from our

competitors .

B. Sociocultural , demographic trends, lifestyle changes

Opportunity: Increase in pet adoption

Pet grooming services are influenced by the representation of pets in society with respect

to cultural norms and values. In some cultures, pets are regarded as family members and are

treated with the utmost care and attention .

The pet industry had been witnessing substantial growth until 2020 and the onset of the

pandemic has further accelerated its pace. With an increase in pet adoption seen during COVID-

19, various segments of the pet care industry – pet food, grooming, and toys – saw a considerable

surge in demand. While dogs and cats remain the most popular choice of pets, other animals such

11
as fish, birds, and reptiles have also been finding new homes. Investors have shown interest in

the pet industry for some years now and the pandemic has only intensified its appeal. The

industry comprises other segments including pet food, pet medication, and even pet insurance.

With increase in pet adoption, the industry is poised to observe unprecedented growth. (Source:

ARANCA, 2022)

Threat: Growing DIY grooming trend

The rise of DIY grooming trends may lead pet owners to groom their pets at home

instead of seeking professional services. These factors combined create a challenging

environment for pet grooming enterprises to navigate and succeed in.

C. Technology Forces

Opportunity: Increasing of technological advancements

According to a report by Euromonitor (2023), the pet care industry in the Philippines has

been experiencing robust growth, not solely due to the surge in new pet owners but also as a

result of technological advancements. The report states that pet owners are increasingly

using online platforms to purchase pet care products and services, including grooming

services. This trend is expected to continue as more consumers become comfortable with online

transactions.

Opportunity: Internet booking systems

Internet booking systems allow us for seamless scheduling, reducing the likelihood of

missed appointments and improving overall productivity. Furthermore, social media marketing

provides a platform for our business to reach a wider audience and showcase our expertise in the

12
field. By taking advantage of these opportunities, We can not only improve our business

operations but also expand our customer base and increase profits.

Threats: Over-reliance on technology

Over-reliance on technology and potential data breaches may cause business disruption.

It is important for pet grooming businesses to ensure that they have robust cyber-security

measures in place to protect their clients’ data and prevent any potential breaches.

Internet platforms offering at-home grooming services may divert traditional shop clients.

However, it is important to note that traditional pet grooming shops offer a range of services that

cannot be replicated by at-home grooming services. For instance

Threat: Internet loss

As a mobile pet grooming business, we recognize that a reliable internet connection is

crucial to our operations. However, despite our best efforts, there may be times when we

experience internet loss or connectivity issues. While we strive to provide the strongest possible

connection, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted service at all times. We understand the

inconvenience this may cause and assure you that we will do everything in our power to

minimize any disruptions and ensure the highest quality of service for both you and your furry

companions.

D. Environmental Forces

Opportunity: Reduced environmental impact

Purr-Fect mobile pet grooming services typically use less water and electricity compared

to traditional grooming methods, which can help reduce their environmental footprint.

13
Threat: No designated area for waste disposal

Purr-Fect mobile pet grooming services may not have a designated area for waste

disposal, which can pose environmental and health risks if not properly handled.

E. Industry and Competitor Analysis

CSJ Pet Grooming Services Lucena

Purr-Fect mobile pet grooming services have identified CSJ as their sole competitor in

the market, as they offer similar mobile pet grooming services. However, CSJ is relatively new

to the industry and has been consistently growing since 2022. As a result, Purr-Fect mobile pet

grooming services view CSJ as their biggest threat in terms of competition. It is crucial for Purr-

Fect to keep a close eye on CSJ's business strategies and innovations to ensure they remain

competitive in the market.

Competitor Description

CSJ Pet Grooming Services Lucena, which was formerly known as the Reah's Pet

Grooming Lucena Branch, has been running since January of 2022. This pet grooming business

offers a full grooming package that includes various services such as hair cutting, nail trimming

and filing, anal gland drainage, ear cleaning, bath and blow dry, and hair brushing. With its

unique mobile pet grooming services, CSJ Pet Grooming Services Lucena stands out as one of

the strongest competitors in the industry. The convenience of their mobile service sets them apart

from other pet grooming businesses in the area. They have a team of skilled professionals who

are dedicated to providing top-notch services for pets and their owners alike. Additionally, they

14
prioritize the safety and comfort of every animal that comes through their doors by using only

high-quality products and equipment.

DEAR PET HUB Veterinary and Grooming Services

have established themselves as a formidable competitor in the industry, thanks to their extensive

experience and expertise. With years of hands-on experience under their belt, the team at Dear

Pet Hub has honed their skills to perfection, making them one of the most sought-after pet

grooming services in the region.

Competitor Description

Pet Hub is a well-established business that has been providing grooming services and pet

supplies to the residents of Lucena since April of 2018. They have become a trusted name among

pet owners in the area due to their commitment to quality service. However, we acknowledge

that there are other businesses in the industry with longer experience than us, which poses a

threat to our growth and success. In addition to their impressive track record, Dear Pet Hub also

boasts some of the lowest prices for full grooming services. This means that pet owners can

enjoy top-quality grooming services without having to break the bank.

15
F. Five forces Model

Figure 1: Five Forces Model

A. Threats of New Entrants: (LOW)

The low entry of new competitors in our industry can be attributed to the fact that there is

currently only one existing competitor who operates similarly to our business. This lack of

competition may present both an advantage and a challenge for us, as it allows us to establish

ourselves more easily in the market, but also means we must remain vigilant and adaptable in

order to maintain our position as the primary player in this space. Nonetheless, with careful

planning and execution, we are confident that we can continue to thrive and grow even a midst a

potentially changing landscape of competitors.

16
B. Power of Suppliers (LOW)

Power of suppliers in mobile pet grooming services refers to the ability of suppliers to

influence the prices and quality of goods and services provided to mobile pet grooming

businesses. However, due to the large number of suppliers in the current market, the power of

individual suppliers has decreased. This is largely due to the high degree of competition among

suppliers, which has outcome in low switching costs for our business. As a result, our mobile pet

grooming business are able to shop around and select from a wider range of suppliers without

being overly reliant on any one supplier's offerings or pricing.

C. Power of Buyers (LOW)

The bargaining power of buyers in the mobile pet grooming industry is a crucial aspect

that determines the level of control customers have over the prices and quality of services

provided by mobile pet grooming businesses. It is worth noting that in this particular industry,

there are limited competitors with only one other business offering similar services to ours. This

has resulted in a decrease in buyer bargaining power due to several factors such as a small

number of buyers and low levels of competition among mobile pet grooming businesses. As a

result, it is important for us to remain vigilant and constantly strive to provide exceptional

services to our customers while keeping our prices competitive to maintain our market share.

D. Threats of Substitute Services (HIGH)

The threat of substitutes is a crucial factor to consider in the mobile pet grooming

industry. This refers to the possibility of pet owners opting for alternative services that offer

comparable benefits or cater to the same economic need such as DIY trend. With an increasing

number of options available, it is important for our mobile pet grooming business to stay ahead

17
of the game and offer unique value propositions that differentiate them from our competitors.

Failure to do so could result in a loss of market share and revenue. Therefore, we to continually

innovate and provide exceptional services that meet the evolving needs and expectations of their

customers.

E. Rivalry among Existing Competitors (LOW)

The mobile pet grooming service industry is a highly competitive and sought-after market.

With numerous existing competitors vying for the attention of pet owners, profitability can be

greatly affected. However, businesses in this industry can overcome intense rivalry by focusing

on building scale to improve their competitiveness and creating sustainable differentiation that

sets them apart from their rivals. Additionally, collaboration with competitors can offer

opportunities to increase the overall market size instead of engaging in cut-throat competition for

a small share of the pie.
