CBDRRM in school

1. Planning/ organizing the earthquake drill

Form disaster risk reduction management team to take charge of first aid, rescue, security,
evacuation, and communications. Designated overall coordinator.
Perform activity before proceeding. The DRRM team should inspect the school grounds and
buildings for unsafe conditions in case of earthquakes.

2. Developing the school earthquake evacuation plan

Before starting to work on the school earthquake evacuation plan, each team and its members
should get a copy of the school maps.
1. Designated a specific open area for each class as their assembly points. These should be
safe from failing objects that may cause injuries.
2. Indicate on the maps the dangerous points which should be avoided during evacuation.
3. Indicate by arrows, the route students should follow from their respective rooms to their
designated assembly points.

4. Actual conduct of earthquake drill


the students should see how well they execute their plan in an earthquake drill.
 The alarm
The school bell or fire alarm alerts the students about the onset of the earthquake.
 The response phases
Execute DUCK, COVER and HOLD. Move away from windows, glass, or anything that
might hurt you when it breaks, falls, or topples.
 The evacuation phases
when the shaking stops, students and teachers should then get ready to evacuate the
school buildings.
 The assembly phases
Students must gather at the assembly point according to grade level and section, as
indicated in the plan.
 The headcount phases
Teachers or class presidents should then make a roll call to check if somebody is missing.
 The evaluation
identifies problems encountered that would pose difficulties in a real earthquake situation in
school students and teachers should then aim to find a solution which shall be part of your
recommendations.
