To assess the reading levels of the students, the PHIL-IRI test was conducted.
There were 249 students who have been part of PHIL-IRI assessment which is based on the Group
Screening test (GST) result. Their level of comprehension was then divided into three groups:Frustration,
Instructional and independent level.
From the result it was identified that there were 64 frustration readers, 110 instructional readers, 75
independent readers.
They were given the first quarterly assessment and there was an improvement in the decoding of
words and reading speed of instructional and independent readers from 110 instructional readers it goes
down to 97 students, an increase of 13 students was noted. As for the frustration readers still, they need
more improvement for them to be classified under instructional level and will be needing specialized reading
instruction.
