Why did you choose this unit topic?

We valued nature, and the fact that we could teach kids about their surroundings and neighbours
on this planet gave us a sense of virtue for our future lives as teachers.

When you are planning your unit and lesson plans, which of the ASSURE steps do you
think you spend most of your time thinking about? Why?

The step of utilising technology, media and materials simply because of the workload it created,
and the research steps it required for us to gather meaningful materials and correct sites and
applications to effectively present them.

How did you determine the prerequisite skills or knowledge (if any) for your plan? What is
the rationale behind the time allocation?

We determined the prerequisite skills and knowledge based on the governmental guidelines
and some of our ideas on what learners may need to understand the topic presented clearly. Our
timetables were made based on our understanding of the topic and what we thought was
appropriate through our previous teaching experiences.

How did you determine and write your objectives?

We determined our objectives based on two things. First, what the official curriculum expected
from us and second, what we expected from ourselves and our students. We wrote them by
having a sense or understanding of these two factors.

How did you decide on instructional methods, media and materials? Why did you choose
them?

The media and materials we needed to use were already chosen by the lecturer. When it comes
to the methods, we thought of how to improve speaking skills of children. It led us to
Communicative Language Teaching. Methods were chosen based on whether they’re
compatible with Communicative Language Teaching.
What is the instructional theory on which your instructional activities are based? Or do you

use an eclectic approach for them? Why?

For our lessons, we used the CLT (Communicative Language Teaching) method. The reason
for choosing this method is because we want to improve the speaking skills of children.
Moreover, it is very hard to keep the attention of young learners in class as they get bored
quickly. Thus, we chose an approach which can entertain them while teaching them.

How did you plan to utilise these instructional methods, media and materials?

As a group, we devised the general plans for the lessons and decided to use the necessary
methods and materials accordingly. The lessons were focused on student learning, rather than
the teacher. The methods that we utilised are games, cooperative learning, discussion, and
presentation. We gave students a Powtoon video as the presentation. Since we wanted to make
the lessons student-based, we avoided teacher presentations. We have a few games involved
with our lessons, so we decided to use the more inherently interactive materials for the games.
However, we also incorporated a game into a mind map, which could be considered
unorthodox. For cooperative learning, we mostly tried to group up students and share their
ideas so that can complete their ideas with each other. For example, we wanted groups of
students to correct a mind map full of mistakes that we created purposefully. In this case, a
student can help another if they miss a part in the activity. We also used discussions as a method
in groups. Student groups must choose only one correct answer for each group. Therefore, they
are encouraged to discuss the answer.

How did you plan for learner participation?

Learner participation is achieved through various means. We have a game, two quizzes, and
probing questions to encourage engagement. Outside of these factors, the teaching method
inherently encourages a lot of speaking, which promotes involvement also.
How did you plan for evaluation and revision? What is the rationale for choosing the

measurement and evaluation methods?

The evaluation and measurement will happen in class. Nonetheless, it will not be in the form
of a test. We do not want to stress our students. Thus, we have decided that the teacher must
monitor students while they are participating in activities. Of course, we had to have a way of
measuring what a student has learned so far. Thus, we decided to put two interesting games
that test all the knowledge given in the unit up to the point of playing these games..
