CHORALE COMPETITION
MECHANICS
1. Participants shall consist of not more than forty (40) including conductor and accompanist
and are considered as one (1) entry to represent their particular strand.
2. Participants could be a mixture of Male and Female members to which an SATB (Soprano,
Alto, Tenor and Bass)
3. Participants should be an enrolled students of Pahilanga National High School to be cast in to
represent their strand.
4. Participants are free to choose the song of their choice, atleast three (3) full rendition of the
songs are required.
5. Total time allotted for every group performance is strictly twelve (12) minutes only. 1 point
shall be deducted from the general average score for every minute of excess.
6. Contest attire is encouraged but should not be lavishing as this has only minimal points for
the criteria of judging.
7. Judges’ decision will be final and irrevocable.

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING


1. VOCAL (50%)

Vocal Technique – Tone Quality, Breath Support, Intonation, Diction and Articulation
Rhythm and Tempo – Voice in relation to music
Timing – How coordinated the singers are in their performance in regards to syncing of vocals
and interaction on stage
Harmony – How the harmonies have been arranged and executed, Difficulty and Creativity.

2. EXPRESSION (30%)

Performance – How well the performer is able to express the meaning and mood of the song
Match – How well the voices and personalities match in relation to the song performed
Chemistry – How credible the partners are in the performance, Interaction

3. SHOWMANSHIP (20%)

Show Design – Music Selection, Effective use of Stage and Performance Area, Outfit and style
Entertainment Value – The audience’s and judges’ reaction to the over-all performance
Choreography – How well the group is able to use the stage and each other to create a show

OVER-ALL TOTAL – 100%
