DSAS Mk2 - How to check the alert button loop continuity

Required  Small flat head screwdriver


Equipment  DVM (Digital Voltmeter)

Procedure Stage Action

Check that the alert buttons are correctly installed with the protective covers
1 properly attached, check all connections at the alert loop circuit, these include
the alert buttons and at the terminal block (Stage 4). Check any other
connection between cables as well as any break or damage along the length of
the alert button cabling:

2 Remove the metal mount and plastic lid from the DSAS Mk2 unit

3 Remove FUSE2, then FUSE1 from its holder (to avoid losing the fuses, they can
be moved so that only one side of the fuse is in the holder).

4 Check the alert button connection at the terminal block, please ensure there
are no loose connections:

5 Measure the resistance across ALM & LP1 on the terminal block using a DVM.
N.B. The ohms reading should be low.

6 Replace FUSE1, LED1 STATUS should begin to flash followed by FUSE2. Press
and hold the anti-tamper switch (located next to the power pack plug) for 10
seconds and then release to initiate the diagnosis process; after two minutes
LED1 STATUS on the charger board should be green constant, if it continues to
flash orange than the alert loop is still open and further diagnostics will be
required

6 Once the problem has been identified and fixed please contact the shore
based support staff so that a test can be carried out.

7 Replace the metal mount and plastic lid from the DSAS Mk2 unit

8 Reconnect the external power supply

Note: If a crew member is unable to carry out the above, please consider sending a technician
on-board.
