PROBLEM DEFINITION

The main problem Clean naija intends to solve is the widespread poor hygiene all over Nigeria which
is caused by the rampant open defecation and careless waste disposal by the citizens which
consequently pose environmental challenges by polluting the environment and lead to adverse
climate conditions.

Open defecation, according to an October 2019 research, Nigeria became the number one open
defecation nation globally, 47 million Nigerians defecate openly, only 14 out of the 774 local
governments in Nigeria are free of open defecation and Nigeria loses $3 billion annually due to poor
sanitation.

Open Waste Disposal: Nigeria generates one of the highest amounts of solid waste in Africa. This
contributes directly to greenhouse gas emissions by the generation of Methane and nitrous Oxide.

DETAILED EXPLANATION OF THE SOLUTION

Clean naija intends to solve the problem through an interactive mobile application which enables
toilet and dumpsite owners to register their toilets/dumpsites on the platform so that users can locate
the ones nearest to them, users can also add newly discovered toilets and dumpsites that are not
previously on the app, this will help people locate the toilets and dumpsite easily accessible. This will
help to reduce open defecation and careless waste disposal drastically. Our target audience are the
Nigerians who defecate openly and struggle to find dumpsites and toilets nearby.

TARGET MARKET AND FEASIBILITY STUDIES

Our target market are paid public toilet owners, paid dumpsite owners and movable trash truck
owners. These people can register their businesses on the platform which makes it easier for
customers to locate them so that they people won’t need to defecate openly or carelessly dispose
waste. This saves the energy and time that will be needed to manually look for a toilet or dumpsite
and as a result discourage open defecation and careless waste disposal.

Additionally, based on our research Nigerian government losses $3 billion annually due to poor
sanitation. Moreover, FG needs $1.6 Trillion to eradicate open defecation in 2025, because 46 million
Nigerians do not have access to toilet.

BUSINESS MODEL

This platform will implement the freemium business model, where basic users have limited features,
and paid users get the full package. The application will adapt a subscription model, which will enable
users to subscribe to plans, which they find suitable for them, users will have the options of monthly
subscriptions or annual subscriptions.

GO-TO MARKET STRATEGY

The product would follow a tested and tried method of market entry by successful start-ups, there
will be a waitlist launch for subscribers mainly in Abuja by November 2023, then a beta launch by
January 2024 to the users on the waitlist, were feedback would be provided and in return they will be
given premium membership for 3 months. We will operate with the self-service sales model, which
will consist of a free tier which will contain ads and a premium tier which costs N1,000 a month per
user.
