Formal and Spoken Arabic


1. Formal Arabic, also called Modern Standard (MSA) or
Classical Arabic “foss-Ha”.
1. School, news broadcasts, politics, economics, culture, etc.
2. More written than an oral register.
3. Is highly respected and constitutes the "intellectual"
register of Arabic.
4. Educated speakers will often mix formal and spoken
forms, because interacting with others in just formal
Arabic can seem impersonal.
2. Spoken Arabic “3ammiyyah” used for communication
on daily basis, it differs according to geographical
areas.
