Slide 2: Human Body Systems Functions (Amoeba Sisters Video) (Transcript)

1. CIRCULATORY SYSTEM - blood carries gasses like oxygen and removes

CO2. It also transports nutrients your body needs. The circulatory system is
a pumping machine that transports blood around. arteries are vessels that
carry blood away from the heart (think “A” for away), veins carry blood back
to the heart, and CAPILLARIES are tiny blood vessels throughout your body.

True or False? Your blood is blue and then turns red when it reaches
oxygen? flase

2. DIGESTIVE SYSTEM - important for breaking down and absorbing food for
your body. It starts in your mouth , Your stomach contains acid to further
digestion. Your small intestine does most of the absorption of nutrients and
your large intestine has to reabsorb a lot of intestine from this process.

3. ENDOCRINE SYSTEM - Contains many glands that secrete hormones such

as GROWTH HORMONE and adrenaline.

4. EXCRETORY SYSTEM - Think “exit” for excretory because this system is all
about excreting WASTE. This system involves your kidneys (lower back),
which assist in removing wastes from the blood. Also includes other ways of
removing waste, such as sweating .

5. INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM - This is your largest organ - your skin. Your skin
helps protect your organs from outside damage, helps with temperature
regulation and from losing precious water.

6. LYMPHATIC/IMMUNE SYSTEM - Your body has many lymph nodes that

tend to swee during some illnesses. Lymph is the clear liquid from blood
plasma that surrounds cells. This system collects , filters , and returns the
lymph to the blood and its major role is immune function. It keeps your
body safe against pathogens like viruses and bacteria. Structures like lymph
nodes, the thymus, spleen and tonsils and bone marrow play significant
roles in your immune system.

7. MUSCULAR SYSTEM - Bones cannot do much without muscle to move them.
You have three types of muscle tissue known as skeletal, smooth, and
cardiac.

8. NERVOUS SYSTEM - The nervous system includes your brain and your spinal
cord - it controls voluntary actions (like picking up a pencil) with involuntary
actions - one’s you don’t control (reflexes, breathing). At a cellular level, the
nervous system uses cells known as neurons.

9. REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM - This system includes reproductive organs. The

major function is that it allows animals to reproduce . Think: Babies.

10. RESPIRATORY SYSTEM - Involves the lungs - This system involves the intake
of OXYGEN into the body and exhaling carbon dioxide from the body.

11. SKELETAL SYSTEM - Adults have 206 bones. These bones protect you.
