LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE

GRADE 7
S.Y. 2023-2024

January 8,2024 ( Resume of Classes)

Date January 8-12,2024 Da 76-80 Total Time Allotment 250 minutes

Unit Topic Microorganisms
Sub-topic  Harmful and beneficial Microorganisms
Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding on organism that can only be seen
through the microscope, many of which consist of only one cell.
Performance Standards The learners should be able to: employ appropriate techniques using the
compound microscope to gather data about very small objects.
Learning Students will be able to identify beneficial and harmful microorganisms; S7LT-IIf-6
Competencies / MELCs
Learning Targets At the end of the lesson, the learners can:
 Identify beneficial and harmful microorganisms.
 Compare and chart the characteristics of different microorganisms

Transfer Goal  By the end of this lesson, students will have a deeper understanding of
microorganisms and be able to effectively compare and organize information using a
chart.

TIME
STAGES ACTIVITIES ALLOTMENT
Explore (Motive Question, - Show a short video clip or images showing different microorganisms found
Pre-Assessment Activity / Review) in everyday life, such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoa.

- Ask the students questions like:

- Have you ever wondered what tiny organisms live all around us?
20 minutes
- Have you ever thought about how these organisms are different from each
other?

- Share interesting facts and anecdotes about microorganisms, such as how

yogurt is made using bacteria or how some fungi can be used to make
bread.
Firm-up - Divide the class into small groups and provide them with charts 100 minutes
(Acquisition/Presentation and and markers.
Discussion)

- Group Activity 1 (Day1) 20 minutes: Instruct each group to

create a chart comparing the characteristics of different
microorganisms they have learned about. For example:

- Bacteria: Size, shape, method of reproduction, examples of

diseases caused.

- Fungi: Structure, mode of reproduction, examples of beneficial

and harmful fungi.

- Viruses: Structure, method of transmission, effects on the human

body.

- Protozoa: Characteristics, habitats, examples.

- Group Activity 2(Day 2) 20 minutes: Give each group a set of
flashcards with pictures of microorganisms. Ask them to classify
the microorganisms into different categories based on their
characteristics.

- Individual Activity (Day 3) 20 minutes: Provide each student

with a worksheet where they can fill in the missing information in a
partially completed chart about microorganisms.

- Practical Activity(Day 4) 40 minutes: Conduct a microscope

observation session where students can view different
microorganisms, like bacteria or fungi, under a microscope using
prepared slides.

Deepen (Make- Meaning - Scaffolded Questions:

/Application) 1. Name two types of microorganisms that are beneficial for humans.
2. How do bacteria reproduce?
3. Which microorganism is responsible for causing malaria?
4. Write one characteristic of fungi.
5. What is the role of viruses in the human body?
6. Define protozoa and give an example.
7. Identify one microorganism that is commonly found in the soil.
8. Explain why some microorganisms are harmful to humans.
9. Compare and contrast bacteria and viruses.
10. Create a chart to organize information about different microorganisms.
70 minutes
Closing:
- Option 1: Ask students to verbally summarize three key points they learned
about microorganisms and their characteristics.
- Option 2: Have students create a visual representation, like a concept map,
linking the different types of microorganisms and their characteristics.
- Option 3: Conduct a class discussion where students share real-life
examples of microorganisms they have encountered or heard about, linking
them to the characteristics discussed in class.
