Rationale A recent report on of the Philippine Statistics Authority has it
that country’s rice production in the 2020 second quarter has
improved 7% from the same period last year. This development
is a testament of our resiliency that despite fierce odds we are
facing these days, we remain tough and firm to carry the torch of
our aspirations towards a rice secure Philippines. Under the
current situation, the relevance and impact of R4D work has
become more pronounced to help address not only food security
but also national security. (PhilRice Magazine Vol. 33 No. 3)

Further, the Apayao State College linked with PhilRice

Isabela to establish Rice Field Demonstration or Farm Walk to
promote yield-enhancing and cost-reducing rice and rice-based
technologies in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Pamplona, Cagayan.

Farm walk is a field demonstration established by farmers,

and led by farmers for other farmers and supported by
researchers and/or extension workers. The farm walk allows
farmers to highlight their own experiences with other farmers
about the pros and cons of new technologies. While researcher-
led demonstration can raise awareness, farmer-led
demonstrations are more believable to other farmers.

Activities Undertaken  Established farm walk field demonstration

 Demonstration and explanation of the different rice
varieties
 Collected feedbacks on technology and farmer needs.
 Conducted voting on different rice varieties presented.
 General discussion on the field demonstrations.
