Judicial Branch
The Constitution vests judicial power in the Supreme
Court and in such lower courts as may be established
by law.
At present, these lower courts are the Court of
Appeals, Trial Courts (Regional, Metropolitan,
Municipal and Municipal Circuit Trial Courts), Special
Courts (Sandiganbayan and Court of Tax Appeals),
and Shari’a Courts (Shari’a District and Circuit Courts).
The Supreme Court exercises administrative
supervision over all courts and their personnel.
As provided for by the Constitution, judicial power
includes the duty of the courts of justice to settle actual
controversies involving legally demandable and
enforceable rights, and to determine whether or not
there has been a grave abuse of discretion amounting
to lack or excess of jurisdiction on the part of any
branch or instrumentality of the Government.
