13. NCRB’s Crime in India 2022: Around 58 lakh crimes registered in 2022; registration of cases declined
by 4.5%
 The crime rate registered per lakh population has declined from 445.9 in 2021 to 422.2 in 2022. This
(2022) is the 70th edition of Crime in India, the annual report published by NCRB. the first edition of
the report pertains to 1953.
 Kerala, Puducherry and West Bengal have witnessed the highest charge sheeting rates under IPC
crimes.

 Cognizable crimes refer to cases which are registered under a section of the IPC and SLL. Crimes like
Rape, Murder and Theft are considered cognizable in India.
 According to the NCRB report, Kolkata (West Bengal) emerged as the safest city in India for the 3rd
consecutive year among major metropolis.
 Kolkata has witnessed a drop in the number of cases of cognizable offences per lakh people from
103.4(2021) to 86.5(2022). Kolkata is followed by Pune (Maharashtra) (280.7 cases) and Hyderabad
(Telangana) (299.2 cases) as the 2nd and 3rd safest cities in India.
 The rankings were based on a comparison among 19 cities with over 20 lakh population.
 As per NCRB Report 2022, Delhi and Haryana are the most unsafe states for women in India. The
states recorded 144.4 and 118.7 incidents of crime per lakh women, respectively.

 India announced USD 250 million Line of Credit (LOC) to Kenya to modernize its agri-sector.
 An LOC is an arrangement between a financial institution—usually a bank—and a customer that

funds from the LOC at any time as long as they do not exceed the maximum amount (or credit limit)
set in the agreement.

solar PhotoVoltaic (PV) developer in the Mercom Capital Group's annual global report titled “Leading
Global Large-Scale Solar PV Developers”. AGEL has a total solar portfolio of 18.1 GigaWatt (GW).
 The list is topped by France-based TotalEnergies with 41.3 GW of solar in its portfolio of projects.
Canada-based Brookfield Renewable Partners is ranked 3rd with a capacity of 18 GW.

Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the reservation norm for mandatory use of jute in
Packaging for jute year 2023-24(July 1, 2023–June 30, 2024).
 It is mandatory to pack 100% of foodgrains and 20% of sugar in jute bags.The main aim of the JPM act
is to protect the interest of jute farmers, workers, and persons engaged in jute goods production. Jute
is biodegradable, renewable, and reusable fibre therefore helping in environmental protection.
23. The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has approved an additional
allocation of Rs.2500 Cr for the continuation of the Interest Equalisation Scheme till 30th June 2024.
This initiative allows exporters, Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) manufacturer
exporters, to avail the preand post-shipment Rupee export credit at competitive interest rates.

 The scheme shall be implemented by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) through various Public and non-

25. RBI raises UPI transaction limit for hospitals, educational institutions to Rs 5 lakh To encourage the
use of Unified Payments Interface (UPI), for medical and educational services, RBI raises the limit for
UPI payments to hospitals and educational institutions from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh per transaction.
 This will help people make UPI payments of higher amounts for education and healthcare purposes.
 Previously the transaction limit for UPI is capped at Rs 1 lakh, except a few categories like Capital
Markets, Collections, Insurance etc. where the transaction limit is Rs 2 lakh, and for payments for
Retail Direct Scheme and for IPO (Initial Public Offer) subscriptions, it was Rs 5 lakh.
 It was launched by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in 2016.
26. RBI has allowed banks to reverse liquidity facilities under both SDF (standing deposit facility) and MSF
(marginal standing facility) on weekends and holidays w.e.f. December 30, 2023. Previously, funds
moved from SDF to MSF on Fridays and reversed on Mondays; now, reversals will occur over the
weekends. This move is expected to facilitate better fund management by the banks.
27. RBI announced to set up a Fintech Repository for a better understanding of developments in the
fintech ecosystem and support the sector. This will be operationalized by the Reserve Bank
Innovation Hub in April 2024 or earlier.
28. RBI to introduce Regulatory Framework for WALP The RBI is also introducing a regulatory framework
for web-aggregation of loan products (WALP). WALP offers a service that aggregates loan offers from
multiple lenders/ Lending Service Providers (LSPs) on an electronic platform. This allows borrowers to
compare offers and choose the most suitable loan option.

Working Group on Digital Lending chaired by Jayant Kumar Dash.
 RBI to establishment Cloud Facility for the Financial Sector in India RBI proposed to establish a cloud
facility for the financial sector in India to enhance security, integrity and privacy of financial sector
data along with facilitation of scalability and business continuity.
 The cloud facility will be set up and initially operated by Indian Financial Technology & Allied Services
(IFTAS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of RBI.
 Eventually, the cloud facility will be transferred to a separate entity owned by the financial sector
participants.
 The cloud facility will be set up in a phased manner in the medium term.
 The facility caters to growing data storage needs, benefiting smaller entities like cooperative banks by
minimizing the necessity for individual database management and reducing investments in skills and
resources.

41. Janet Truncale has been named the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ernst & Young LLP, becoming
the first woman to lead a Big Four audit firm. She will succeed Carmine Di Sibio on 1st July 2024.
 Di Sibio took over as global chair and chief executive in 2019, having risen through the ranks of EY’s
US business serving financial services clients, including Goldman Sachs.
