As online learning becomes more common and more and more resources are converted to

digital form, some people have suggested that public libraries should be shut down and, in their

place, everyone should be given an iPad with an e-reader subscription.Proponents of this idea

state that it will save local cities and towns money because libraries are expensive to maintain.

They also believe it will encourage more people to read because they won’t have to travel to a

library to get a book; they can simply click on what they want to read and read it from wherever

they are. They could also access more materials because libraries won’t have to buy physical

copies of books; they can simply rent out as many digital copies as they need. However, it

would be a serious mistake to replace libraries with tablets. First, digital books and resources

are associated with less learning and more problems than print resources. A study done on

tablet vs book reading found that people read 20-30% slower on tablets, retain 20% less

information, and understand 10% less of what they read compared to people who read the

same information in print. Additionally, staring too long at a screen has been shown to cause

numerous health problems, including blurred vision, dizziness, dry eyes, headaches, and eye

strain, at much higher instances than reading print does. People who use tablets and mobile

devices excessively also have a higher incidence of more serious health issues such as

fibromyalgia, shoulder and back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and muscle strain. I know that

whenever I read from my e-reader for too long, my eyes begin to feel tired and my neck hurts.

We should not add to these problems by giving people, especially young people, more reasons

to look at screens. Second, it is incredibly narrow-minded to assume that the only service

libraries offer is book lending. Libraries have a multitude of benefits, and many are only

available if the library has a physical location. Some of these benefits include acting as a quiet
study space, giving people a way to converse with their neighbors, holding classes on a variety

of topics, providing jobs, answering patron questions, and keeping the community connected.

One neighborhood found that, after a local library instituted community events such as play

times for toddlers and parents, job fairs for teenagers, and meeting spaces for senior citizens,

over a third of residents reported feeling more connected to their community. Similarly, a Pew

survey conducted in 2015 found that nearly two-thirds of American adults feel that closing their

local library would have a major impact on their community. People see libraries as a way to

connect with others and get their questions answered, benefits tablets can’t offer nearly as well

or as easily. While replacing libraries with tablets may seem like a simple solution, it would

encourage people to spend even more time looking at digital screens, despite the myriad issues

surrounding them. It would also end access to many of the benefits of libraries that people

have come to rely on. In many areas, libraries are such an important part of the community

network that they could never be replaced by a simple object.

B. Write a five-paragraph essay on the topic VACCINATION FOR COVID-19. Your essay can be

persuasive or ARGUMENTATIVE in nature. (30pts)

Safeguarding Lives and Rebuilding Societies.

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented an unprecedented global challenge, threatening the

health and well-being of individuals and the stability of societies worldwide. In this critical

context, COVID-19 vaccination emerges as an indispensable tool in our collective fight against

the virus. This essay aims to present a compelling argument, supported by factual evidence,

logical reasoning, and acknowledgement of opposing claims, to emphasize the imperative

nature of COVID-19 vaccination. By offering a calm and reasoned perspective, this essay seeks

to encourage readers to recognize the validity and significance of vaccination in safeguarding

lives and rebuilding societies.

COVID-19 vaccination is crucial for protecting public health. Extensive scientific research and

rigorous testing have demonstrated the safety and efficacy of vaccines. Clinical trials involving

thousands of participants have consistently shown high levels of effectiveness in preventing

severe illness and hospitalization. Data from reputable health organizations, such as the World

Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),

consistently support the benefits of vaccination. These facts, reasons, and evidence provide a

strong foundation for the imperative of COVID-19 vaccination.

A logical analysis supports the case for COVID-19 vaccination. Vaccines work by stimulating the

immune system to recognize and fight the virus. By getting vaccinated, individuals not only

protect themselves but also contribute to the collective effort of achieving herd immunity. This

shields vulnerable populations who are unable to receive the vaccine due to medical reasons.

Moreover, high vaccination rates reduce the overall transmission of the virus, preventing its
spread and subsequent waves of infections. This logical reasoning highlights the necessity of

widespread vaccination to control the pandemic effectively.

It is important to address concerns raised by those who are hesitant about COVID-19

vaccination. Some argue that the vaccines were developed too quickly, raising doubts about

their safety. However, it is crucial to note that the accelerated development was due to

unprecedented global collaboration, increased funding, and expedited regulatory processes

without compromising safety measures. Additionally, claims suggesting severe side effects are

rare and outweighed by the potential benefits of vaccination in preventing severe illness and

death. The benefits far outweigh the risks, as supported by scientific evidence.

A comparative analysis strengthens the case for COVID-19 vaccination. When comparing

regions or communities with high vaccination rates to those with low vaccination rates, the

impact becomes evident. Areas with high vaccination coverage have experienced significant

reductions in infection rates, hospitalizations, and deaths. By contrast, regions with low

vaccination rates continue to face surges in cases and strain on healthcare systems. This

comparison emphasizes the effectiveness of vaccination in curbing the spread of the virus and

protecting communities.

In conclusion, the imperative of COVID-19 vaccination cannot be underestimated. By offering

facts, logical reasoning, acknowledging opposing claims, and providing evidence, this essay has

presented a strong argument for the importance of vaccination. The scientific consensus

supports its safety and effectiveness in saving lives and rebuilding societies. It is our collective

responsibility to recognize the validity of this argument and work together to overcome the
challenges posed by the pandemic. Let us approach vaccination with a calm tone, encouraging

others to acknowledge its significance and contribute to the well-being of our global

community.

PERSUASIVE or argumentative in nature. (30pts)

A Call to Protect Lives

In the face of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the urgency of widespread vaccination cannot

be overstated. This essay aims to persuasively argue for the importance of COVID-19

vaccination by effectively combining factual information with emotional appeal. With a tone
that is emotionally charged and assertive, this essay presents a compelling case that focuses

solely on ideas supporting the author's position. By the end, readers will be convinced to align

with the author's opinion and recognize the critical role that vaccination plays in protecting

lives and rebuilding our world.

The urgency of COVID-19 vaccination lies in the undeniable fact that lives are at stake. The

virus has claimed countless lives, leaving families devastated and communities in despair. By

getting vaccinated, individuals not only protect themselves but also contribute to the collective

effort of ending this devastating pandemic. The emotional toll of witnessing the suffering and

loss should compel us to take immediate action. Vaccination is not just a personal choice; it is a

responsibility we have to one another.

The emotional impact of the pandemic cannot be ignored. Fear, anxiety, and uncertainty have

permeated our lives, causing immense distress and disrupting the fabric of society. The hope

for a return to normalcy lies in the widespread acceptance of vaccination. By getting vaccinated,

we can reclaim our lives, reunite with loved ones, and rebuild our communities. The emotional

well-being of individuals and the collective spirit of society depend on our collective

commitment to vaccination.

While there may be counter claims against COVID-19 vaccination, it is crucial to focus on the

overwhelming evidence and expert consensus supporting its effectiveness and safety. The

scientific community, comprised of renowned experts and researchers, has conducted

extensive research and rigorous testing to ensure the vaccines' reliability. We must not allow
baseless doubts to overshadow the overwhelming benefits that vaccination brings. Ignoring

counter claims that lack credible evidence is crucial in moving forward and protecting lives.

The imperative of COVID-19 vaccination is rooted in the need to prioritize the greater good.

Vaccination not only protects ourselves but also shields the most vulnerable among us. It is a

small sacrifice for the greater benefit of our communities. By presenting this idea, we establish

a clear position that vaccination is not just an option but a moral obligation. It is our

responsibility to protect lives and contribute to the collective effort of rebuilding our world.

The urgency of vaccination cannot wait for further evidence. The risks associated with COVID-

19 far outweigh any potential risks of the vaccines. We must act based on the information

available and the consensus of experts. Waiting for more evidence only prolongs the suffering

and delays the return to normalcy. It is time to trust in the scientific community and take the

necessary steps to protect ourselves and our communities. The absence of evidence should not

deter us from taking action when the well-being of humanity is at stake.

In conclusion, the imperative of COVID-19 vaccination is clear and compelling. By combining

facts with emotional appeal, this essay has presented a persuasive case for the importance of

vaccination. The emotional toll, the need for a return to normalcy, and the overwhelming

evidence supporting vaccination all underscore the critical role it plays in protecting lives and

rebuilding our world. It is imperative that we prioritize the greater good, trust in the scientific

community, and take the necessary steps to get vaccinated. Only by working together can we

overcome this global crisis and create a safer and healthier future for all.
