7. [4 Marks] Four years ago you borrowed R200 000 from a bank to start a small busi-
ness. One year ago you borrowed a further R50 000. You need to pay back the loan
in two equal instalments, the first one now and the second in two years’ time. How
much do you have to pay in each instalment? The bank’s interest rate is 10% p.a,
compounded monthly.

8. [6 Marks] At the beginning of 2017 Jane opens a savings account that earns 6%
interest p.a. compounded monthly. She plans to make deposits of equal size at
the end of each month for a year so that she will have enough saved by the end of
December 2017 to buy a new laptop costing R13 500,00.

(a) Write down the domain of the function. (1)

(b) Find the points of intersection of the graph of f (x) with the axes. (2)

(d) Does f (x) have any vertical asymptotes? Justify your answer. (1)

Find the coordinates of the critical points of f (x).
