1. “Beneath all uniforms…” What uniform


do you think the poet is speaking about?
The poet is speaking about the uniform
of the armed forces of all the different
countries.
2. How does the poet suggest that all
people on the earth are the same?
The poet says that all people need sun,
air and water. All are happy in peace and
die of hunger in war. All people have
eyes and hands. All people sleep, wakes
breathe, work and die.
3. Find in stanza 1 five ways in which we all
are alike.
Each of us has a similar body
All of us breathe, walk, lie and die. We
live and die on the same earth.
4. How many common features can you
find in stanza 2?
We all need air, water and sun. We all
live in peace and starve in war. We all
have hands and work with them.
5. “…whenever we are told to hate our
brother…” When do you think this
happens? Why? Who tells us? Should we
do as we are told at such times? What
does the poet say?
Whenever there is a war our leaders tell
us to hate our brothers from other
countries. They tell us to do so because
their ego is hurt. But we should not do so
as they tell us. We must understand that
no one benefits from war. In fact it
causes more pain. It is necessary to
resolve the misunderstanding through
peaceful ways.
The poet says that if we fight against our
brother we do not harm anybody else
instead we kill, condemn and betray
ourselves.
