Representatives of 85 states parties of STCW 1978 Convention
participated at MANILA, including ROMANIA
Chapter III - Engine department - seagoing ship powered by main
propulsion machinery of 750 kW / 3000 kW propulsion power or more
Officer in charge of an engineering watch: approved education and
training and meet the standard competences as specified in section
A-III/1 / STCW Code
Chief Engineer officer and Second Engineer officer: meet the standard
competences as specified in section A-III/2 / STCW Code

Function 1: Marine engineering at the operational level

Assessment - Criteria for evaluating competence:


.1 approved in-service experience

.2 approved training ship experience

.3 approved simulator training, where appropriate, using: stability, trim


and stress tables, diagrams and stress-calculating equipment
.4 approved laboratory equipment training: Ship construction, etc.

.5 approved specialist training: Carriage of dangerous goods, etc.

Assessment - During semester and Final examination


During Semester:
mandatory homeworks, also a PROJECT
seminar/laboratory active attendace
laptops/tablets for documentation recommended
if needed overtime seminars
TCN Project - Verification - mandatory for exam admittance
design ship dimensions and coefficients
ship stability and displacement calculus
done at home and during class
Final Examination - on-line
final assessment as multiple choice quiz questions in the last week of the
semester
the examination is from the theoretical part of the lectures
all documentation allowed (it’s online :) )
