ECU conditions
Set conditions

Causes
Possible causes

► Air filter insert is torn, wet, dirty or incorrectly fitted.

► Water discharge valve on the intake duct is blocked
► Air intake system (air intake piping) is damaged/leaking.
► Air compressor intake pipe is leaking
► The electrical cables and plug connectors from A435 EDC control unit to B323 air flow meter are
damaged
► B323 air flow meter is faulty
SPN_4025_Luftmassenmesser - Sensorabweichung_MOT-EDC17-Bosch Version: 2020-09-18 Page: 2/6

Tests
Possible test steps

► Check "Air mass, air flow model" and "Air flow meter" for plausibility using the MAN-cats menu item
"Engine/Monitoring/Additional values".
► Check air filter insert for damage and check for correct installation
► Check the water discharge valve on the intake duct for blockage
► Check the air intake system (air intake piping) for damage and leaks.
► Check the air compressor line for damage
► Measure the power supply of B323 air flow meter on A435 engine control unit EDC between pin A55 and
A7. Setpoint value: 12 V - 15 V (when engine at standstill)
► Measure the resistance between pin A55 and pin A26 on A435 engine control unit EDC. Setpoint value
1.10 kΩ to 2.60 kΩ
► Measure the resistance between pin A55 and pin A02 on A435 engine control unit EDC. Setpoint value:
>10 MΩ
► Check the electrical cables and plug connectors from A435 EDC control unit to B323 air flow meter for
disconnection, short circuit, contact resistance, change in cross-section, corrosion, correct connection,
splayed plug contacts

Remedy
Possible remedy

► If necessary, replace air filter insert

► If necessary, repair air filter element water trap
► If necessary, repair air intake system (air intake piping).
► If necessary, repair air compressor pipe
► If necessary, repair the electrical cables and plug connectors from A435 EDC control unit to B323 air
flow meter
► If necessary, replace B323 air flow meter.

Note
Additional information/notes

B323 air flow meter must not come into contact with cleaning agents or other chemicals (e.g. engine starting
aids such as start pilot, etc.). This would result in the sensor drifting or being completely destroyed!
Blowing compressed air through B323 air flow meter is not permitted as this may result in the sensor drifting
or being completely destroyed.

► Take note of the system descriptions "T175 – Electronically controlled diesel injection EDC"
► Observe the relevant vehicle circuit diagrams during inspection

Causes
Possible causes

► Air flow meter (B323) is faulty.

Tests
Possible test steps

► Check lines.
► Check plug connectors.
► Check air flow meter (B323).
► Measure resistance between contact A55 and contact A26.
► Setpoint value: 1.10 to 2.60 kΩ
► Ground routing: Measure resistance between contact A55 and contact A02.

Symptoms
System reaction/possible effects
• Reduced output in all ranges
• Reduced performance under full load
• Engine not running smoothly/engine jerks.
Substitute reaction
---

Causes
Possible causes

► Charging pressure upstream of engine (in charge-air pipe) is implausible

► Lambda signal is outside of the permitted limit value
► M289 EGR servomotor is faulty (EGR shut-off flap is blocked e.g. rivet sheared, linkage deformed, lever
has play on the drive shaft, screws loosened on bracket)
► Air filter insert is torn, wet, dirty or incorrectly installed
► Air intake system (air intake piping) is damaged/leaking
► Water discharge valve on the intake duct is blocked.
► Air compressor intake pipe is leaking.
► Valve seats of the exhaust valves are worn
► Y355 EVB module is faulty (exhaust throttle valve is stiff)
► Turbo charger is carbonised
► M119 throttle-valve actuator is faulty (charge-air throttle valve is stiff)
► The electrical cables and plug connectors between A435 engine control unit and B323 air flow meter are
damaged.
► Cylinder housing / measuring tube of B323 air flow meter is damaged/leaking
► B323 air flow meter is faulty

Tests
Possible test steps

► Check plausibility of "Charging pressure (absolute)" using MAN-cats under "Engine/Monitoring/Charging

pressure governing system"
► Use MAN-cats to check lambda signal for plausibility under "Engine/Monitoring/Lambda values"
► Check the plausibility of the position of the EGR flap using MAN-cats under "Engine/Monitoring/Exhaust
gas recirculation".
► Perform actuator test of the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) using MAN-cats under "Engine/Actuator
test/Exhaust gas recirculation".
► Check the air intake system (air intake piping) for damage and leaks.
► Check the EGR shut-off flap for blockage
► Check the plausibility of "Air flow, air flow model" and "Air flow sensor" using MAN-cats under "Engine/
Monitoring/Additional values".

Note
Additional information/notes

B323 air flow meter must not come into contact with cleaning agents or other chemicals (e.g. engine starting
aids such as start pilot, etc.). This would result in the sensor drifting or being completely destroyed!
The bolt connections between the M289 EGR servomotor and shut-off flap must not be undone as this will
alter the calibration. The EGR system on many vehicles is controlled by the electrical M289 EGR servomotor.
The pneumatic EGR system with B673 adjusting cylinder with displacement sensor and Y458 E-EGR
proportional valve is only used in the bus/coach engines D0836LOH and D2066LUH.

► Take note of the system descriptions "T175 – Electronically controlled diesel injection EDC"
► Observe the relevant vehicle circuit diagrams during inspection.
