Motivation Letter

Tole Fikadu Aga

I am applying for the Computer Science and Engineering, Master's Programme in Business
Analytics, program at Oulu University to gain industry-relevant competencies, study in a leading-
edge research environment, collaborate with global ICT companies in Oulu, and network with
distinguished professors in various fields such as computer vision, computer security, robotics,
virtual reality, and AI to gain skills and abilities to manage and utilize digital data. My career plans
involve pursuing a successful and fulfilling path in Computer Science and Engineering,
familiarizing myself with Applied Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Engineering, and
Cyber Security. I am particularly interested in the software aspects of computing, with a focus on
embedded system development to use the methods and tools I acquire in business, industrial and
other organizational contexts. I intend to specialize in Internet of Things (IoT) applications, as it
will be the main area of my future research. During my studies, I plan to secure internships or co-
op programs to gain practical experience and industry exposure, as well as actively seek
opportunities to specialize in IoT applications by networking with professionals in the field,
attending industry events, and staying updated with the latest advancements in IoT technology.

In terms of skills and experience, I have acquired a firm understanding of various technical areas
relevant to Computer Science and Engineering. I have a strong understanding of mathematics,
including courses in Discrete Mathematics, Probability & Random Processes, and Applied
Mathematics (I, II & III). I have also completed courses relevant to programming such as
Introduction to Computing, Fundamentals of Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms,
Database Systems, Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, Algorithms, Programming Languages,
and Fundamentals of Software Engineering, among others. These courses have provided me with
a strong programming background, particularly in languages such as Python, C++, and Java.
Alongside my technical skills, I possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, as well as
logical thinking skills that are essential for algorithm design and software development. I excel in
mathematics and algorithmic thinking, which are crucial for creating optimized algorithms and
data structures. Additionally, I have gained practical experience through internships at Ethio
Telecom and Oromia Broadcasting Network, where I contributed to projects in network

infrastructure design, implementation, and optimization, as well as content production,

broadcasting, system administration, and project management.

Currently, I am pursuing a dual BSc degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering

(Major) and Computer Science and Engineering (Second Major) at Adama Science and
Technology University. The courses I have taken in this program align closely with the field of
Computer Science and Engineering at Oulu University. My earlier studies have provided me with
a strong foundation in electronics, communication systems, computer science and engineering
principles, which will be valuable in my pursuit of the Master's program. As I progress through
my current program, I have delved deeper into computer science and engineering topics such as
programming languages, algorithms, Data structures, software engineering, and computer
networks. This dual major degree program has allowed me to develop a comprehensive skill set
that combines hardware and software aspects, preparing me for the challenges and opportunities
in the field of IoTs.

In the field of IoT, my research intent is to focus on developing efficient and secure communication
protocols, intelligent data analytics techniques, and innovative computing architectures. I aim to
address the challenges associated with the increasing number of connected devices and the vast
amounts of data generated by IoT systems. By exploring novel approaches and leveraging
technologies such as machine learning and edge computing, I strive to enhance the performance,
security, and scalability of IoT networks. Through my research, I aspire to contribute to the
advancement of IoT technologies and unlock their full potential in various domains, improving
efficiency, decision-making, and user experiences in the IoT ecosystem. This research area will be
the focus of my master's thesis.

To support my MSc studies at Oulu University, I have devised a financial plan that involves
utilizing personal savings, exploring part-time work opportunities if available, and seeking out
scholarship opportunities. I am fully aware of the financial investment required for higher
education and am committed to finding ways to make financing my studies feasible. I am
particularly interested in securing available scholarships to alleviate the financial burden
associated with my MSc studies, allowing me to dedicate more time and energy to my academic
pursuits and research.

I possess the drive and passion to pursue the Master of Computer Science and Engineering program
at Oulu University. My goal is to acquire industry-relevant competencies, engage in leading-edge
research, collaborate with global ICT companies in Oulu, and network with distinguished
professors. With a focus on embedded system development and IoT applications, I aim to develop
efficient and secure communication protocols, intelligent data analytics techniques, and innovative
computing architectures. Through my research, I aim to contribute to the advancement of IoT
technologies, addressing challenges associated with connected devices and data generation, and
improving efficiency and user experiences to apply in a business context.
