Reading Section – Test Format
● Test format – 3 reading passages with a number of task types
● Total time – 60 minutes
● Total questions – 40 questions
● Type of questions – Multiple choice questions, identifying information, identifying writer’s views,
matching information, matching headings, features, sentence endings, sentence completion, summary
completion, note completion, table completion, flow-chart completion, diagram label completion, and
short answer questions.
● Marks – 1 mark per question
● No extra time is given for transferring the answers.
● Poor spelling and grammar are penalized.

● How much time do I devote each day to reading English texts?
● What genres of reading texts do I find most relaxing?
● What exactly are ‘keywords’ and ‘key phrases’?
● Do I understand the various reading skills?
● Do I have a thorough understanding of all the IELTS Reading question types? Do I understand their time
and settings?
● Do I know how to respond to them well?
