In celebration of the Mayoyao Women’s Federation Year End Program, representatives of each barangay
were gathered at the Municipal Gymnasium on November 29 to present their accomplishments, to
share their best practices and to talk about their success stories to stimulate every member to do the same. The program was attended by Hon. Rudy N. Chilagan Jr. (Municipal Vice Mayor), Hon. Marie Cris P. Nachegpan (the Vice Chair on Social Welfare), Ms. Letty M. Lim-ang (Federation President), Ms. Prue Earl B. Banagyo (Social Welfare Focal Person), Doc. Julian Alain Aliguyon (MHO), Ms. Romana A. Bumalo (MSWDO), PNP Representative and MSWD staff. Reports on the status of the Women’s Federation were presented. Topics like Rights of the Child (in line with the National Children’s Month), Covid-19 Updates and the Vaccine (in line with the 3-day National Vaccination Days) and IEC on Child and Women Welfare were all discussed to convey awareness to the women. Due to the emergence of the pandemic, the traditional celebration of children’s month on November was rather altered into a conduction of education concerning the Rights of Children Under the Convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC) which went with the theme, “New Normal na Walang Iwanan, Karapatan ng Bawat Bata Ating Tutukan.” November 29 was also the kick-off of the three-day “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” National Vaccination Drive of the government so updates about Covid-19 were shared. The highpoints of the event though were the activities and the involvement of women in the local community and their sharing of ideas to come up with small programs for the advantage of their respective barangays. These were the barangays that participated in the program who proudly presented their accomplishments as an organization: Barangay Alimit has fruitfully manufactured the “Ali Banana Chips” which can be bought at a reasonable price of only 15php. Barangay Buninan had their successful clean-up drive in May. The Barangay Representative also shared how they assisted in times of distress like in the case of death of a member. They generously contribute a chupa (or more) of rice to the grieving family. Gardening was also one thing that they developed, especially during this pandemic. Barangay Magulon, like Barangay Alimit similarly has produced their very own product which is Ginger Tea that can be bought at only 90php per bottle. The wholesale price would be cheaper though, at 85php for 10 bottles. Barangay Mapawoy did not have any product to showcase, instead, they manage a lending program with a budget of 10,000php for emergency loan to qualified members requiring support, mostly in terms of education or any other hardship necessitating cash assistance. In the length of 21 years, they are very proud of supporting co-members that have already graduated, have married and became members of the organization as well. Only 1% of the women’s population in Mapawoy are not members due to old age but the larger 99% are all members of the organization. Barangay Tulaed only had 20 members that eventually grew to a bigger number of 49 due to the inspiring talk of Mapawoy’s Barangay Captain, during one of the women’s general gatherings in Tulaed. They also do lending for members only with 2% interest. They participated in clean-up drives. They likewise donate 3 chupas of rice and 20php (each member) for cash assistance in case of death. Barangay Banhal introduced the noodle making program. The raw material used is squash. It can be cooked and can be served as lomi. In the occurrence of sickness, they correspondingly contribute a certain amount of money to aid the sick member in the hospitalization fees. Lastly, Barangay Bato- Alatbang started their visitation program for sick people in the community but due to the pandemic, it was temporarily halted. In the event of death of a member, they offer their service to the bereaved family. They also contribute any amount of money under the condition that a member’s immediate family has to be referred to other hospitals for further medical proceedings.
