Position Description
The University of Memphis (a Carnegie R1 - Doctoral Universities with very high research activity) is
looking to hire up to four doctoral students in the year 2024 between May and August. Students who will
be selected in May will be admitted to the Summer 2024 program, and those selected in August will be
admitted in the Fall 2024 program. All hires will be for doctoral students in Civil Engineering, focusing on
transportation systems engineering. Candidates with bachelor's or master's degree from Civil
Engineering, City and Regional Planning, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, and other related

Benefits
1. Fellowship to cover entire tuition fee to take relevant courses (International students will not pay out of
state tuition and instate tuition will be covered by an award by the university). Tuition is a fee that is

2. Monthly stipend of $2,000 - $3,000 per month (above average of US universities) totaling $24,000 -
$36,000 per year. This amount will rise each year based on performance and productivity.
3. Excellent health insurance is covered during the entire duration of the doctoral program.
4. Additional compensation for summer is made for the students who are productive.
5. Travel fellowships are provided to attend Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting in Washington
DC every year and other national and international conferences as appropriate during the doctoral
program and research relevance.
