Fire Engulfed Central Market

New Delhi, September 10: Over a hundred persons were trapped for two hours
when a devastating fire broke out yesterday in the Central Market, Lajpat
Nagar between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Though no casualties were reported
officially, fifty people were injured.

The fire broke out around 4.50 p.m. due to a short circuit in the main line and
spread quickly. There was panic and stampede as people rushed out of the
overcrowded market place. Fire brigade and police arrived at the venue within
half an hour. About a dozen firemen battled for two hours to bring the fire
under control. The loss incurred is estimated to be about five crore rupees.
The injured persons were rushed to a nearby hospital. Many people sustained
minor burns.

Ms Usha Rao, the City Mayor has announced an enquiry into the mishap and
has also assured assistance to the families of those injured seriously. The local
government has also released helpline numbers for medical help.

Goods Truck Collided with a Car at Gurgaon Bypass

Gurgaon, September 12: On Monday, around 11 p.m., a goods truck collided
with a car on the National Highway killing three near the Gurgaon bypass. The
accident left two severely injured as well.

Both the vehicles were greatly damaged. It is suspected that the truck driver
must have fallen asleep while driving causing the accident. The highway was
blocked for more than an hour due to the accident. Emergency ambulance
services arrived at the earliest and all of them were given first aid. A family of
four was travelling in the car. The husband and wife sustained multiple
fractures and the children were badly injured. The driver of the truck also
suffered multiple fractures. All of them were admitted to a nearby hospital.

The City Mayor, Mr Rahul Sen, has assured free medical assistance to the
injured. Also, a few more traffic policemen have been deployed in the area to
ensure smooth and safe travel.

Cleanliness Drive Conducted with Zeal and Gusto

Sarvodaya Public School, Gurgaon, undertook a cleanliness drive during the

month of October 2022 in accordance with Clean India Campaign organised by
the Indian government. Around 120 students from across the classes XI-XII
participated in this month-long drive.

The school chalked out a monthly plan to organise numerous activities

including skits, awareness drives, talks, poster making, etc. A special assembly
marked the beginning of the drive on October 2, 2022. The students took a

pledge to clean their school, homes, public places and surroundings. The play
on ‘Clean India' added to the importance of hygiene, sanitation and
cleanliness. The students and school staff actively involved in the cleanliness
drive, enthusiastically taking up brooms and cleaning up every nook and corner
of the classrooms, corridors, school ground and nearby area.

The whole drive was quite inspiring and motivating for the students. It helped
the students learn the importance of dignity of labour as well.
