Consultant Letter to Employer- RTU Site Report Week 53

Dear Sir,
Please find the site issues and observations as stated below:

1. 220kV Grid Station Bund Road (SR-027):

I. We have been notified by the Alpine representative that all the cables laid up to SIC panel have a
core size of 0.75mm², whereas the existing cards has provision of punching a cable core of
0.6mm². As per CMEC representative, Contractor has submitted the design according to the
survey i.e. of 0.6mm² and also ordered the same, however, manufacturer has provided 0.75mm²
claiming that it’s the better one, and CMEC not realizing that same cable will not punch into
cards terminals.

Below images are from SIC panel showing the difference in core size:

Recommendation: It is recommended that the additional terminal blocks assemblies are to be

used for terminating 0.75mm² core cable at one end, and new cable core of 0.6mm² at other
end. CMEC agreed to the proposed solution.

II. CMEC representative highlighted that 220kV Control panels have excess of messed up cables and
have no possible way to laying of cables in the panel and termination of it.

Below images are from 220kV Control panels showing the current condition:

Recommendation: After detailed telephonic discussion with XEN P&I and Contractor
representative, a way out has been proposed; there is a spare control panel which can be used
for installation of local remote switches (4 in No.), whereas the signals that are to be taken from
existing panel are separately terminated in the same panel (with new TB). Moreover, as cable
cannot enter from the bottom of the panels therefore, it is agreed by XEN P&I and CMEC that
cable is laid from the top of the panels.

Below mentioned is a summary of RTU site activities from Jan 01 – Jan 07, 2024:

1. Due to fog outdoor activities could not be carried out, whereas termination of interface
relays had been completed in SIC panel.

2. After decision is finalized on spare control panel terminations, installation of local remote
switch is in progress in the same panel.
