PART 2

Describe a time you tried a new food for the first time

You should say:

• What it was
• Where you ate it
• What it tasted like
• And explain whether you liked it or not
I was struggling* to come up with** something because I haven’t been out to eat or had a holiday in/for ages*** so it’s a
while**** since I tried something new. The only occasion***** I could recall****** was a few years back.

*to struggle = to find **to come up with = ***ages = a ****a while = a *****occasion = ******to recall =
something difficult to think of long time long time time to remember

The dish* that I’m going to talk about is called Bingsu or Patbingsu, I’m not entirely sure which,
but I think it goes by** both names. Anyway, like I said, a couple of years ago, I was travelling
around Korea and I tasted*** it for the first time. Basically****, it’s a pudding and is one of the
most refreshing***** desserts I’ve ever tried.

*the dish = the **to go by = to be ***to taste = to ****basically = in a general or *****refreshing = something that makes you cool
food known as try basic way; in simple terms again after you have been tired or hot

From memory*, it’s made of shaved ice**, condensed milk*** and the one I had was made with mango. I’m guessing you
can have lots of different flavours. It would work with all kinds of fruit, I expect. It is incredibly sugary**** so you need a
sweet tooth*****, but the sweetness combined with****** the fruit is a winning combination*******.
*from memory = **shaved = cut ***condensed milk = ****sugary = very sweet *****a sweet tooth = ******combined with =

I clearly/vividly remember the day that I had it, it was a boiling hot* day. We had been
walking around for a few hours and we were all shattered**. We went into a shopping
mall to cool off/down and there was a café serving*** Bingsu. There were four of us and
we ordered one, but it was so moreish**** that we ordered a couple more.
*boiling hot = very hot **shattered = very tired ***to serve = to provide ****moreish = you want more

I wish we could get it in my country, but I’ve never seen it here sadly, so I’ve only had it the once*. I’m hoping to go
back to Korea this year or next so it’s definitely something I’ll be having when I go. I imagine it’s quite fattening**
because condensed milk is high in calories*** so it’s not something I’d eat every day, but it’s a tasty treat****. It
could be described as healthy though, to be fair*****, because it is packed with****** fruit. I’m not a lover of fruit
on its own, but when it is in a sweet thing such as this, then I’ll happily eat it.

*the once = a single **fattening = contains a lot ***to be high in calories = ****a treat = something you *****to be fair = used for
time of fat and sugar to have a lot of calories have on a special occasion making criticism less strong
