Content
Learning Outcomes [ASSURE (State Objectives)]
Students will participate in a discussion about healthy foods using cooking-related vocabulary. They will
demonstrate the ability to discuss the topic by giving examples of healthy foods and provide advice on how to
eat healthy during the discussion.

8th grade students will engage in role play, by preparing a scenario related to everyday situation like ordering in
a restaurant. They should successfully apply related vocabulary and use the terms correctly, after giving an
example by the teacher.
Instructional Materials & Media [ASSURE (Select Strategies, Technology, Media and Materials)]
Projector, PC, Whiteboard, Prezi for teacher to introduce the materials in the classroom.
The teacher will use the Infographic (Pictochart) to show how to prepare a healthy recipe.

Learning-Teaching Methods [ASSURE (Select Strategies, Technology, Media and Materials)]


Teacher will introduce the topic in English using Direct Method at the beginning of the class using Prezi
presentation and infographic.

After the introduction, students will practice to order food by utilizing cooperative learning, ask about the
food, etc. in a restaurant context. Active participation of students is needed.

Students will be assigned a quiz.


Teaching Activities [ASSURE (Utilize Technology, Media, and Materials and Require Learner Participation)]
Prezi presentation will be used to introduce the materials to the classroom.
Students will do role-play.
Quiz at the end of class.
Individual Learning Activities (~25 min) Students will express their food preferences taking the
nutritional values of the foods into consideration and
discuss whether their preferences are healthy or not.
Group Learning Activities Students will form groups of maximum four to
(~25 min) demonstrate real-life examples of conversations in a
restaurant context. Students will prepare conversations
to act out in the classroom. After the preparation,
students will have time to show their real-life
conversation examples and receive feedback from the
teacher.

Summary
This lesson will cover healthy foods, the preparation steps and related vocabulary.
Measurement & Evaluation

Measurement & Assessment Activities for Students will be given an announced quiz covering the
Individual Performance previous lessons out of 16 points.

Explanation
Explanation regarding to the implementation of the plan
Teacher will introduce the topic in English using Direct Method at the beginning of the class using Prezi
presentation. The teacher may receive questions regarding the topic from students The teacher will use the
infographic to show the students how to prepare a healthy recipe (~20 mins)

After the introduction of the topic, students will express their food preferences taking the nutritional values of
the foods into consideration and discuss whether their preferences are healthy or not. Student-student
interactions and teacher-student interactions are important (25~mins).

After the discussion, the teacher will inform the students on how a role-play, or a demonstration of a real-life
conversation should go. The teacher will provide students with a few examples, or commonly used phrases.
The teacher will write down the sentences on the board. (~5 mins).

Students will form groups of maximum four to demonstrate real-life examples of conversations in a restaurant
context. Students will prepare conversations to act out in the classroom. After the preparation, students will
have time to show their real-life conversation examples and receive feedback from the teacher. (~25 min).

Students will be given an announced quiz of a recipe to fill in the blanks out of 16 points. Quiz will take time for
15 minutes.

Back-Up Plan

At the beginning of the class, the teacher will introduce the topic using Prezi slides. If the computer or the
website does not work, the teacher should explain the topic orally and write down essential information on the
board.

Teacher should have more quiz copies than the student number.
