How to measure hazards?

Analyze the situation and where the hazard might strike to assess the
impact the hazard can cause at that certain area. First, we need to
identify the hazard. Assess the location or place wherein the hazards is
most likely to occur. Most hazards are measured on a scale e.g. the
Richter scale or the volcanic explosivity index (VEI). Generally
speaking, the stronger the hazard the more severe the hazard is. Second,
evaluate the risks the hazard can cause the moment the it occur to
prevent casualties and injuries. Predictably, some hazards are easier to
predict than others. Lastly, decide on control measures to implement
when hazard strike. This will help to reassure and calm the situation.

Can we reduce hazards?

Yes, we can reduce hazards by taking safety measure. By improving our

knowledge about hazards and conducting hazard assessment can help us
to locate and, in the case of some hazard, anticipate over different time-
periods when these might occur. We can use the Richter scale or the
volcanic explosivity index (VEI) to help us identiy the hazard, collect
the hazard-related date, and predict where the hazard might occur.
Predicting using the information of exporsure and vulnerability of a
communty, will help to quantify the probabilities of where the hazard
might occur and how much casualties and damage it will cause. These
are just a few way on how can we reduce hazards, but as we keep on
improving our knowledge about hazards, we can find a better and safer
way to reduce hazard.
