INTRODUCTION

W
itchcraft has been around since the
beginning of time. It’s evolved
throughout the ages, developing
simultaneously within various cultures all over the
world. There’s a lot about this ancient tradition to
learn, and many people practice magic differently
than what I’ll describe in this book.
Maybe you already hold certain beliefs for your
witchcraft. For example, you might choose to snuff
out candles rather than blowing them out to show
respect for the element of fire. Personally, I choose
to just blow them out as I send up a heartfelt thank
you. It’s all good! Your spiritual practice can look
any way you want it to. I teach secular magic. It’s
compatible with any religion, and you can use the
witchcraft in this book to work with your own

1
JULIE WILDER

personal deities, spirit guides, higher power, or the

universe.
I personally believe magic is simply the practice
of using energy to create change in your life.
And that’s what I’ll show you. I’ll leave the
ethics up to you. As you step further into your
power, you’ll strengthen your connection to your
intuition. In my opinion, your intuition is all the
moral code you need.
Some people who practice magic follow the
Wiccan tradition. If that’s you, you’ll see some
differences in this book. I definitely don’t intend to
invalidate your experience or your beliefs. I’m
speaking from my own personal beliefs and experi-
ences, and, frankly, I’m limited by what I know.
Some people identify as pagans. Others reject a
label altogether. My goal is to be inclusive to anyone
on a spiritual journey. Take what resonates and leave
the rest.
Also, please take the time to read my disclaimer
at the front of this book. It’s important. I really
don’t want you to hurt yourself. There are many
parts of magic that involve fire, potions, herbs, oils,
crystals, and other potentially harmful substances.
Just because something came from the good, green
earth doesn’t mean it won’t poison you. And as for
that saying, “playing with fire”—don’t do that,
either. Fire can be dangerous. Always practice

proper fire safety and never leave candles

unattended.
I also can’t promise you’ll get the results you
desire from these cards, spells, or rituals. I’m just
sharing what’s worked well for me. This book and
card deck are intended for informational and educa-
tional purposes only, and you are in charge of your
own spiritual practice.
One last thing: I’m not a doctor or a therapist. I
personally think doctors and therapists can be
incredibly healing, but that’s just me. Nothing in
this book should be used in place of medical
treatment.
Stay safe, my witchy friend, and take care of
your precious, beautiful life.
Sound good?
I hope so because things are about to get
magical!

HOW I BECAME A WITCH

I
’ve felt powerless many times in my life.
When I was a kid, I wished my hair wasn’t so
curly and that my parents loved each other
more.
When I was in my early twenties, I wished I had
a nice boyfriend and that I’d finally get a good job.
When I made it into my thirties, I wished my
business was making more money and that I was
emotionally ready to have kids like my other, more
normal friends.
I wished that life was just a little easier.
And then I realized… There was no changing
life. Life was life. The only thing I could change was
me. I discovered spirituality and began to see the
world through a new lens.
I realized I wasn’t actually alone. Not really. I

5
JULIE WILDER

was surrounded by elemental spirits, animal famil-

iars, spirit guides, my higher power, and the vibra-
tions of the universe. I had amazing friends around
me and a loving family who would always have my
back.
I stopped wishing and comparing and focusing
on my flaws. I decided that I was worth something,
that I was powerful, and that my world was full of
magic. I chose to believe, and that was the moment
my life began to transform.
I began to see signs that offered me guidance
and comfort. Soon, everywhere I looked I saw
synchronicities.
I learned how to change my reality with witch-
craft, magical tools, and deep internal energy shifts.
The crazy thing was that it actually worked. I felt
powerful. I felt like a real-life magical witch.
The stories are true—magic works if you
believe.
Whether you know it or not, you can be a
powerful witch, too. It is your birthright. You can
choose to accept your power or set it aside. It’s up
to you.
This little book of spells is an invitation to
reclaim your power. All you have to do is believe—
believe in love, believe in yourself, and believe in
magic. It exists if you know where to look.
I started my website White Witch Academy

6
A MINI BOOK OF SPELLS

because I wanted to teach others how to use witch-

craft to make their lives awesome. I’ll teach you how
to use different energies and magical tools to help
you move past your current obstacles, and take you
further along on your spiritual journey.
Witchcraft isn’t about leaving your life up to the
cosmos or obsessively drawing cards until you get
the answer you want.
(Oh, I’ve been there. I get it.)
Instead, this little book of spells will show you
practical ways to add magic to your everyday life, so
that you never, ever have to feel powerless again.
Let these magical tools, sabbats, elements, and
spells included in this book inspire you and open
your mind to all the ways you can use your power.
So stop wishing, my witchy friend. Stop waiting
for someone to save you. You are the one you’ve
been waiting for.

HOW TO SET UP & CLEANSE
YOUR SACRED SPACE

T
his is a great habit to get into before you
begin practicing witchcraft. It gets rid of
any unwanted energy in your body and
in your space, and prepares your mind for magic.
Find a space in your home or outside where you
feel relaxed. If possible, try to keep people from
coming into your space or interrupting you. If you
want, you can arrange magical tools and trinkets
around you to create an atmosphere for magic. This
can include candles, incense, crystals, essential oil
diffusers, or anything else that “elevates” the space.
You can also create a meditation playlist with
your favorite calming songs. And don’t forget to
brew a cup of tea or other relaxing beverage if that’s
something you enjoy during your spiritual practice.
Once your space is set up the way you want, you

9
JULIE WILDER

can energetically cleanse your space. There are a lot

of different ways you can do this, but the simplest
method is a traditional “White Light Meditation.”
Close your eyes and listen to your breath. Notice
your inhales and exhales, notice the stability of the
earth underneath you.
When you feel grounded, visualize a white light
moving down from the sky. This is the cleansing
white light of the universe. Allow it to wash over
you and float into the space around you. Let it fill
the whole space. As it fills the space, it will gently
guide the unwanted energy away from you.
I recommend doing this meditation for about
five to ten minutes, but feel free to go longer or
shorter as you feel guided. When you feel like
you’ve done the job, open your eyes.

HOW TO MAKE A CHARM BAG

C
harm bags are small satchels (usually
drawstring bags) that hold powerful
magic. Sure, it might not look like much
—it’s just an old bag, after all—but when you fill it
with your favorite crystals, herbs, and intentions,
you create the ultimate secret weapon. How conve-
nient that it fits right in your pocket?
To create a charm bag, get a small cloth bag and
decide on your intention. Write the intention on a
piece of paper and place it in the bag. Add anything
you think will add power to your specific intention.
Crystals are great, particularly clear quartz, which
will power any kind of intention. Dried herbs and
bits of melted wax from spell candles work well,
too. Be sure to include a few small personal trinkets
like any good luck charms, pretty beads, buttons,

11
JULIE WILDER

ribbon, or photos. Anything that is meaningful to

you (that fits in the bag) can add energy to your
charm.
Charge your charm bag with new moon or full
moon energy by setting it outside or by a window
sill overnight. Carry your charm bag around with
you until you sense the energy is fading. You can
always recharge your charm bag with moonlight, a
white light meditation, or your favorite crystal.
To make a love charm bag, fill a small pouch
with rosebuds, rosemary, mint, and a cinnamon
stick. Add a pinch of pink Himalayan sea salt and
the petals of any flowers currently in bloom. Finally,
write your intention on a piece of paper and slip
that into your charm bag before you close it up.
The most powerful intentions are written in first
person and in the present tense with a focus on the
positive. You can use this intention, or make up
your own: “I attract my ideal partner and we recog-
nize our deep connection immediately.”
Bonus points if you have a red or pink string to
tie up your charm bag. Leave it outside to charge in
the light of the full moon and carry it with you to
attract love.

HOW TO MAKE A MAGICAL
ELIXIR

A
n elixir is a liquid that has been charged
with a magical intention. When you drink
it, you bring that energy into your body.
The magic of an elixir usually works quickly. You
can also pour elixirs into your bathtub for a ritual
bath, sprinkle it around your sacred space, use it to
anoint candles, or dab it on your wrists like
perfume.
To make a moon elixir, fill a glass jar with water.
Cover it with a lid and place it outside under the
moon or by a window. This works even on a cloudy
night when the moon isn’t visible.

New moon energy will create an elixir

that will help you get clear on what you
want and how to get it.

13
JULIE WILDER

Waxing moon energy will infuse your

water with growth energy, perfect for
watering your plants or calling in
financial abundance.
The full moon will charge your water
with celebratory energy, manifesting
powers, and increased psychic abilities.
Use it to make tea to sip while you
meditate on your desires or perform
divination magic.
Waning moon energy will create an
elixir for releasing any kind of energy
that is no longer serving you.

To make a crystal elixir, place a clean, polished

crystal in a jar of water. Leave it there for about
fifteen minutes or until you feel like the crystal has
worked its magic. The water will take on the energy
and vibration of the crystal. You can also use crys-
tals to charge your juice, wine, or kombucha.
Avoid hot or cold temperatures because that can
cause your crystal to crack. If your crystal does
crack in the liquid, be sure to discard the liquid.
Keep in mind, there are many crystals that are not
safe to place in water. Do your research before you
create any crystal elixirs on your own. Clear quartz,
rose quartz, amethyst, smoky quartz, and citrine are
all safe to use in liquid.

14
A MINI BOOK OF SPELLS

Clear quartz will charge the liquid with

amplifying energy, perfect for days when
you need an energetic boost.
Rose quartz will charge the liquid with
the energy of self love, friendship, or
romantic love.
Amethyst-infused liquid will enhance
your intuition and psychic abilities—
great to drink while you’re reading tarot
cards or using a pendulum.
Smoky quartz will help you release any
excess or unwanted energy.
Citrine-infused liquid will bring you
luck, success, confidence, and financial
abundance.

HOW TO PREP & CHARGE YOUR
AT H A M E F O R W I T C H C R A F T.

A
n athame is a knife or dagger used for
magical purposes. You can use it to stir
potions, carve sigils, or cut through any
energy that is getting in the way of your goals.
Athames can also be used in place of wands for
casting circles and clearing unwanted energy from a
space.
You can pick up an athame from a thrift store,
antique store, or sporting goods store. Wherever
you get it, make sure you cleanse and charge your
athame so it is yours and yours alone.
To do this, light some incense (sage, rosemary, or
sandalwood are excellent options) and let the blade
pass through the smoke.
Then point the athame to the east and invite the

17
JULIE WILDER

element of air to charge the blade. Finally, hold the

blade to your lips and blow on it, sealing it with
your own personal energy.

HOW TO UNDO AN EVIL EY E
CURSE

Y
ou’ve probably cursed someone with the
Evil Eye without even knowing it. It’s
one of the simplest curses in magic, and
sometimes you can’t even help it! You cast by
shooting someone the meanest, ugliest, angriest
look you can muster. It’s quick, too. All it takes is
one fleeting dirty look aimed at someone who
wronged you for the curse to take hold. Maybe it
was just an accident. After all, you were really angry!
Your energy-charged glance came from an overflow
of emotion, not an attempt to curse someone.
If you suspect you’ve been cursed with the evil
eye, sit under the full moon to cleanse yourself of
any lingering curses.
You can also place a clean, polished smoky
quartz crystal into a glass of water and let it charge

19
JULIE WILDER

for at least five minutes. Then drink that crystal-

infused elixir. As you do this, think the following
affirmation:
“I radiate the pure, white light of the universe
from the inside out.”

HOW TO PERFORM CANDLE
MAGIC SPELLS

G
reen candles are often associated with
money and wealth because green is the
color of paper money in the United
States. On an even deeper level, green symbolizes
the abundant element of earth. Because of this,
green candles are used to call in abundance of all
kinds, as well as intentions regarding growth,
creation, and fertility.

Here are a few ways to use green candles in

your witchcraft:

Light a green candle when you are

working with money, such as creating a
monthly budget or doing your taxes.
Bury a green candle in your garden for

21
JULIE WILDER

one lunar cycle so it can absorb the

abundance energy from the earth. Burn it
in your home whenever you need to call
in more money or abundance in any
form.
For a money spell, light a green candle on
your altar. Place a few coins or paper
money (or a picture of whatever your
desire is) around the candle along with a
piece of citrine and three bay leaves. On
a piece of paper, write your intention and
place it in the center of your altar. Think
thoughts of abundance that get you
emotionally engaged and excited.
Emotion is an extremely powerful force
in magic. This is an excellent spell to do
during the waxing moon phase.

When you think of red candles, your mind

might immediately go to love and romance, but
that’s only part of their magic. Red is also a color
associated with power, survival, and the root
chakra.

Here are a few ways to use red candles in your

witchcraft:

Whenever you’re feeling powerless, hold

22
A MINI BOOK OF SPELLS

a red candle between your palms and

visualize energy moving from the base of
your spine out through the crown of your
head. Feel it course through your arms
and legs, connecting you to the power
that you always have inside of you even
when you feel small. Once you feel your
energy lift, visualize energy moving out
through your arms and fingers and into
your red candle. Next, light the red
candle and begin journaling or visualizing
a version of yourself who looks, feels, and
acts like a powerful, magical witch.
To get someone special to think of you,
burn a red candle on your altar. Use your
finger to “write” the name of your lover
(or prospective lover) in the air as the
candle burns. Visualize the person, their
face, and what they’re doing at that
moment. When you have a clear view of
the person in your mind’s eye, whisper
their name.
You can pair red candles with bloodstone
crystals, jasper, black tourmaline, smoky
quartz, citrine, and carnelian.

In magic, blue candles are often used for

communication spells. They support any kind of

23
JULIE WILDER

communication intention, from getting your ex-

lover to talk to you to getting the results of a
medical exam. It doesn’t matter if these words are
spoken or written—blue candles will aid any and all
communication.

Here are a few ways to use blue candles in

your witchcraft:

If you are trying to get someone to leave

you alone or stop talking to you, get a
blue birthday candle and hold it between
your palms as you visualize this person in
your mind’s eye. See that person close his
or her mouth and walk away from you.
Then open your eyes and break the
candle in two. Bury that candle in the
dirt or throw it away. If you suspect you
might want to talk to that person again
in the future, save the blue candle. To
reverse this spell, glue the candle back
together.
Light a blue candle when you’re typing
up emails or writing anything where you
need to communicate clearly and
concisely.
The night before you give a speech, go on
a blind date, or have a difficult

24
A MINI BOOK OF SPELLS

conversation, light a blue candle and

meditate on how you want your
communication to unfold. Visualize
yourself communicating clearly and
confidently. Do this for about ten
minutes or until you feel complete. Then
extinguish the candle and thank the
element of fire for sharing its energy.

25
7
HOW TO USE YOUR
PENDULUM FOR GUIDANCE &
DIVINATION

A
pendulum is a trinket, crystal, or charm
that hangs on the end of a chain. Tradi-
tionally, you hold the pendulum in your
non-dominant hand, weaving the chain through
your fingers and letting the charm dangle.
To begin using your pendulum, you’ll have to
“train” it first. Let it dangle from your non-domi-
nant hand as you ask it to show you what a “yes”
looks like. Then ask for a “no.” Maybe you discover
that the pendulum makes a clockwise circle for a
“yes” and swings back and forth for a “no.” It’s
different for everyone, so be super observant.
When you think you’ve established a clear “yes”
and “no,” ask your pendulum a few questions that
you already know the answers to such as “Am I

27
JULIE WILDER

thirty-two years old?” or “Are my eyes brown?” Then

see if your pendulum responds truthfully.
Once you’ve trained your pendulum, you can ask
it all kinds of fun questions, like “Does he love me?”
or “Should I rent this apartment?” Since the answers
are coming from your involuntary muscle move-
ments, you’ll get a straight answer from the deepest,
wisest part of yourself.
The truth is, you might not know consciously if
he loves you or if you should rent that apartment,
but you most certainly do on a subconscious level.

HOW TO PERFORM A
VISUALIZATION SPELL

V
isualization is a form of meditation
where you see yourself in your mind’s eye
doing things that you want to get good at
or things you want to manifest. Visualizing is a
common exercise used by CEOs and professional
athletes. It’s a proven technique for increasing your
level of performance without lifting a finger. Visual-
ization is a big part of magic. Almost every spell,
ritual, or meditation involves visualizing your
desired result.
If you want to try visualization in the context of
a spell, here are nine steps to creating your own
powerful visualization candle spell.

1. Decide what your intention is and write it

29
JULIE WILDER

down on a piece of paper. You’re 42% more likely

to achieve the goals you write down.

2. Light a candle in a color that you intuitively

feel corresponds with your particular intention.

3. Sit in a comfortable position in front of your

candle. Grab a blanket if you think you’ll get
cold. Gaze into the flame, take a deep breath, and
close your eyes.

4. Visualize what it looks like to achieve your

goal. See it play in your mind like a scene from a
movie. How do you look? How do you act? How
do you interact with others?

5. Imagine what it feels like to be that person,

living that life. What emotions come up? The
more emotion you add to your visualizations, the
more powerful your energy.

6. Do this visualization meditation for about ten

minutes.

7. When you’re done, open your eyes, and thank

yourself for taking the time to invest in your
dreams.

30
A MINI BOOK OF SPELLS

8. If you can, wait for the candle to burn down. If

that’s just not practical, thank the candle for
participating in your spell and blow the
flame out.

9. If any negative feelings came up when you were

visualizing, journal about them until you find the
reason behind the negative feelings. Are you
worried about making more money because you’ll
have to pay more taxes? Do you fear going on
dates because you might get rejected? Dig into
these fears. Those are your blocks, and releasing
them will allow the magic to flow.

31
9
HOW TO PERFORM A CANDLE
GAZING SPELL

C
andle gazing is used in witchcraft for
meditation and divination. It’s basically
just what it sounds like—you light a
candle and gaze at the base of the flame while you
open your mind to messages from your intuition,
spirit guides, personal deities, or higher power.
To add candle gazing into your witchcraft, sit
quietly in a place where you know you won’t be
disturbed for a couple of minutes.
Bring your awareness to the places where your
body is making contact with the floor. It’s especially
important to feel grounded before you begin this
spell.
Rest your arms on your lap and turn your palms
face up so they are ready to receive energy. If you

33
JULIE WILDER

are concerned about feeling cold, keep a blanket or

sweater nearby.
When you feel grounded and relaxed, say the
words, “I call on the element of fire to warm my
heart and open my mind to new messages.” You can
also ask for guidance on a specific issue or situation
you’re dealing with.
Light a red candle (or whatever you have on
hand). Tea lights and birthday candles work just
fine.
Bring your gaze to the very base of the flame.
Blink whenever you feel the need. Allow your gaze
to go a bit unfocused. Practice closing your eyes and
seeing the flame behind your eyelids. This is how
you will begin to bring that fire energy into your
body.
As you alternate focusing on the flame with your
eyes open and shut, visualize the light of the flame
seeping into your body. Breathe in the light, feel the
subtle heat on your skin, and listen for any quiet,
comforting sounds the candle makes.
Visualize the fire energy in the form of a golden
light welling up in your chest. In your mind’s eyes,
see it getting bigger and brighter until it fills your
body, the room, and the entire building you’re
sitting in. If any thoughts, images, or messages
appear in your mind, notice them and allow them to
move through you.

34
A MINI BOOK OF SPELLS

To end your spell, deepen your breath and slowly

bring your awareness back to the room. Blow out
your candle if it hasn’t burned down all the way.
Journal about any feelings, thoughts, or images that
passed through your consciousness during your
candle gazing meditation. Your spell is complete.

35
10
HOW TO USE A WITCH’S
BROOM TO BANISH ENERGY

A
witch’s broom is used for flying, of course!
Just kidding. Brooms are used in witch-
craft to clear out any unwanted energy
from a space. It’s one of the quickest and most
effective ways to cleanse a room and prepare it for
magic. Witches will also use this practice to clean
energy from a room after a particularly intense
spell.
You can make your own magical broom or use a
store-bought one. Some people believe your magical
broom must only be used for magic and not for
actual cleaning, but that’s totally up to you.
To energetically cleanse your space, hold your
broom and make quick, firm outward strokes. Keep
your broom about three inches from the ground
because you’re sweeping away unwanted energy

37
JULIE WILDER

right now, not physical dirt. Do this in a counter-

clockwise spiral, starting in the center of the room
and moving outward. Visualize the unwanted energy
drifting out of the room.
This can be done in your sacred space or any
room that feels energetically heavy.

38
11
HOW TO RELEASE EXCESS
ENERGY WITH A GROUNDING
SPELL

G
rounding is a magical process that
doesn’t get the attention it deserves. As
a witch, you spend a lot of time working
with energy. This energy can come from every
corner of the universe—from the physical world and
the spiritual world.
You know you need to ground yourself when you
feel uncomfortable physically, mentally, or emotion-
ally. The first step to grounding is to figure out what
you need to make yourself feel better.
If you’re hungry, eat something. If you’re thirsty,
get something to drink. If you need a nap, go to
bed. If you have a headache, treat it the way you
normally would like taking medication or using a
home remedy.
In most cases, you’ll want to ground yourself

39
JULIE WILDER

before you perform any kind of magic. A simple way

to do this is to stand with both feet on the ground
(or sit if that’s more comfortable) and visualize pink
roots sprouting from your feet going into the
ground.
In your mind’s eye, see those roots growing
deeper and deeper into the ground until they
connect with the energetic center of the earth. Take
a few minutes to absorb that peaceful energy.
If you have too much energy and need to release
some, you can send any excess energy through your
roots down into the earth. When you feel relaxed
and balanced, you can open your eyes and begin
your witchcraft.

40
12
HOW TO PERFORM A KNOT
MAGIC LOVE SPELL

H
ave you ever worn a friendship bracelet
before? That’s a form of knot magic that
has made its way into mainstream
culture. Knot magic works by capturing the feelings
and energy of the person at the exact moment they
tie the knot. That energy is preserved within that
knot for as long as the knot holds.
For all of you witches who are interested in
performing love spells, knot magic is a great way to
go about it. Why? Because if the object of your
affection turns out to be a flop, simply untie your
knot and end your spell!
For a love spell, tie an overhand knot on a pink
or red cord. (Make sure it’s some kind of material
you’ll be able to untie if things go awry.) Then as
you hold the knot between your fingers, visualize a

41
JULIE WILDER

perfect evening with your love interest—cuddling

on the couch, walking on the beach, dancing at a
club, whatever you’d love to do with this person.
End your visualization with the two of you kiss-
ing. For best results, try to spend about ten to
fifteen minutes visualizing without interruption.
To strengthen the connection between a friend,
family member, or a lover, create two bracelets out
of ribbon, embroidery floss, or hemp. Have your
friend tie one of the bracelets around your wrist and
say something she loves about you. Do the same
with your friend’s bracelet and tell her what you
love about her as well. If your bracelet falls off, it
might be a sign to release that relationship.
However, if you still want that relationship in your
life, just tie the bracelet back on with another knot.

H O W T O R E A D T E A L E AV E S
FOR DIVINATION

R
eading tea leaves is a wonderful witchy
practice that you can create a whole
ritual out of. A simple cup of tea repre-
sents all four of the elements. You can silently call
in each one as you sip away. Earth to the north is
represented by the tea leaves. You have water to the
west and fire to the south represented by the hot
water in your mug. Air to the east is represented by
the soothing steam that rises up into the universe.
To practice reading tea leaves, sip your tea as
you ponder a question you’d like guidance on.
When you’ve drunk most of the tea, you can
begin reading your tea leaves. To do this, swirl the
last bit of tea around in your mug three times. (If
you have a favorite number, feel free to do it that

43
JULIE WILDER

amount of times. The more personal meaning you

can add into your tea leaf reading spell, the better.)
Next, turn your cup over on your saucer (or a
small plate). Let it sit upside-down on your saucer
for a moment so all the remaining bits of tea leaves
can drain out. Lift up the mug to reveal your tea
leaves and whisper your question aloud.
Examine your tea leaves and jot down any
thoughts, feelings, images, or physical sensations
that come over you as you do this. Also, look for
shapes in the tea leaves—it’s kind of like looking for
shapes in the clouds. Another method is to gaze at
the tea leaves and let your focus “soften,” like when
you’re looking at a Magic Eye image. See if any
shapes or messages come to you that way. You can
get super abstract here. That’s sometimes how your
spirit guides (or intuition) will communicate with
you. The answer to your questions should be
revealed to you, if not now, in the next couple days.
Watch for signs!
Finally, hold your mug in your hands and close
your eyes. Thank the elements for participating in
your tea leaf spell.
