FINAL EXAMINATION: JAN 2016 SESSION

Instructions: This paper consists of FIVE (5) sections. Answer any FOUR (4) questions. All
questions carry equal marks.

Question 1

(a) Engineering design models are useful in solving engineering problems. List six of these
design models.

(b) Name and show the flow of two versions for Linear Model of innovation.
(10 marks)
(c) Briefly explain three advantages of a Spiral Model. (9 marks)

Question 2

(a) An engineering firm is looking for a Mechanical Engineer with 3 to 5 years experiences. The
candidate must registered with BEM and able to work independently. However, fresh
graduate is encouraged to apply too. Prepare a one-page resume to apply the job, assuming
you are a fresh graduate with only internship experience.

(b) Generally, resume is divided into four main parts. State and explain briefly all of them.

(c) There are three important concerns in the mind of interviewee for consideration. List and
explain them. (7 marks)

Good presentations require preparation.

(a) State the main considerations of presentation. (4 marks)


(b) There are some good practices in slides preparation. List down all of them. (4 marks)
(c) Interview is an important process. Briefly describe the importance of interview process
to the employer, employee, human resource and upper management.
(8 marks)
(d) There are some right and wrong attitudes during the process of interview. List down
4 (FOUR) right attitudes and 5 (FIVE) wrong attitudes.

Question 4

(a) A German university has voted to strip Education Minister Annette Schavan of her doctorate
after an investigation into plagiarism allegations. This scenario is related to ethics.

i) Define “Engineering Ethics”. (6 marks)

ii) There are six areas which requires ethics in engineering. List all of them. (6 marks)

(b) Margaret Anne Pierce, a professor in Georgia southern University has categorized the ethical
decisions related to computer technology and usage into three primary influences. State all of
them.

(c) Define „Washington Accord‟. (4 marks)

(d) What is involved in Washington Accord? (6 marks)

Question 5

a) In this technological age, the power of the engineers in shaping the society and environment is
significant and can profoundly affect the lives of many members of the society. Give your
views on how largely positive impacts resulted from the contributions of engineers. You may
elaborate three (3) positive impacts.
(15 marks)

b) “ He shall not under any circumstances solicit advisory or consultative work, either directly or
by an agent, nor shall he pay, by commission or otherwise any person who may introduce
clients to him”. Discuss and elaborate three (3) ways an engineer especially newcomer to the
field, can project him/herself as a responsible professional to the society without being guilty
of violating the above.
