ii. The pile location shall be marked on the ground using 6 - 8mm rod] 15-20 cm long.
iii. The impression ofthe boring tool is made on around the point and the rig is correctly aligned
to the impression.
iv. On aligning the rig] boring shall be carried out to the required depth and then MS liner of
suitable length shall be placed in the pit concentric to the pile point. The liner is then pressed
inside with the arrangements available in the rotary rig.
v. Material inside the casing liner shall be removed progressively by the rig with the auger or
bucket tool.
vi. The soil boring shall continue with the drilling and mucking operation till the desired
founding level as per specified in the approved Drawing .
vii. The muck removed from the bore shall be disposed away·from the site.
viii. The depth of pile shall be checked by sounding chain and exact depth shall be recorded in
the pile report.

8.2 Control of Alignment

i.The piling rig itself has in-built provisions to check and maintain the verticality of the bore. In
case] if required] verticality can also be .checked using plumb bob and spirit level.
. ii. Piles shall be installed as accurately as possible .accordlng to the design and drawings either
vertically or to the specified batter] Greater care should be exercised in respect of
installation of single piles or piles in two pile groups. As a guide an angular deviation of 1.5
percent in alignment for vertical piles and a deviation of 4 percent for raker piles should not
be exceeded. Piles should not deviate more than 75 mm or 0/6 whichever is less (75 mm or
0/10 whichever is more in case of piles having diameter more than 600 mm) from their
designed positions at the working level.

8.3 Rotary Drilling Method

i.The mechanism of the machine is rotary drilling by using hydraulic feed. Boring is carried out
to the required depth using suitable auger attached to the telescopic Kelly bar.

lowered and binding will be done stage wise.
iiLThe rebar cage shall be lowered into the bore by rig or by crane as suited at site.
iv.The first length of cage shall be lowered and held with top of the bars adequately
strengthened above the bore on which upper cage is placed in position, lapped and joined in
place and then cage is lowered . These laps should be welded (at location/in-situ) or joined
with couplers before lowering.

8.5 Flushing in case bentonite slurry is used

LAfter cage lowering, tremie pipes in suitable lengths are to be lowered in the hole. The
operation is done by lowering one tremie pipe after another
,
and connecting them to
maintain water tightness throughout its length till the gap between the pile base and trernie
shall be minimum 300 mm.The tremie pipe shall be locked/supported from top to maintain
the level with funnel attached at top.
iLThe tremie head is connectedat top with the tremie pipe for the flushing activity. The bore is
flushed by fresh bentonite slurry through the tremie head. The pumping for flushing shall be
done by use of mud circulation pump. Flushing will be done to remove all the loose
sediments which might have accumulated on the founding strata. Further, the flushing
. .
operation shall be continued till the consistency of inflowing and out flowing slurry is similar.
Out flowing slurry shall be collected in a collection tank and the same shall be used for boring
of next pile.

8.6 Pile Concreting

L The M35 grade concrete shall be prepared at batching plant & transported to site in transit
mixers.
iLOnly fresh batched concrete shall be used .and the concreting has to be done continuously
without interruption.
iiLTremie pipe concreting shall be done joining a series of pipes. The hopper at the top shall
have a volume greater that the tremie pipe volume.
. lv.A suitable steel stopper at the neck of the hopper which can be withdrawn with least
resistance or a sliding plug can be used.
v.The hopper and pipe shall be cleaned of encrusted concrete, dust, debris etc., and shall be
watertight.
vLConcrete placing into the hopper shall be facilitated using suitable ramps for direct pour
from the transit mixers: In case of inaccessible locations, concrete can alternatively be placed
into the hopper-by concrete pump.
viLThe hopper shall be filled with concrete completely and then the stopper plate is removed to
allow the concrete to flow into the pipe.

viiLSubsequent charges of concrete shall be maintained continuous as required till the pile bore
is cast to the specified height.
ix.The bottom oftremie pipe shall always be inside concrete forming watertight system . The tip
shall be minimum 1 metre inside concrete depending upon rate of pouring concrete.
x.The tremie pipe shall be withdrawn in stages as and when concrete builds up in the bore .
xl.Particular care shall be taken when vertical movement is imparted on tremie pipe to force
concrete down into the pipe and also when tremie pipe is raised so that the rebar cage is not
disturbed from its position.
xll .Where cut off level is less than 2.5 m below the ground level, concrete shall be cast to a
minimum of 600 mm above cut-off level. For each additional 0.3 m increase in cut-off level
below the working level, additional coverage of minimum 50 mm shall be allowed . Higher
allowance may be necessary depending on the length of the pile . When concrete is placed
by tremic method, concrete shall be cast up to the ground level to permit overflow of
concrete for visual inspection or to a minimum of one metre above cut-off level. In the
circumstances where cut-off level is below ground water level, the need to maintain a
pressure on the unset concrete equal to or greater than water pressure should be-observed
and accordingly length of extra concrete above cut-off level shall be determined.
xlll. The slump of concrete shall be 150 to 200 mm at the time of pouring.

8.7 Pile cut-off and extension
