Personal Statement:

As a Sudanese female dentist, born into a large family with a middle socioeconomic status, Iam, Dr.
Hadeil Fikri, have been fortunate to grow up surrounded by love, support, and a strong sense of
responsibility. Being the youngest among my four brothers and one sister, I have learned the value of
family and the importance of working together towards shared goals.

My father, a civil engineer, and my mother, a dedicated housewife, have instilled in me the virtues of
hard work, perseverance, and compassion. Their unwavering support and encouragement have been
instrumental in shaping my aspirations and fostering my dedication to making a positive impact in the
field of oral maxillofacial surgery.

Growing up in a close-knit family, I have always been eager to assist and contribute to the well-being of
my loved ones. Whether it was providing a helping hand with household chores or lending an ear to
listen and offer support, I have embraced my role as a reliable and dependable member of my family.

With the backing of my family, I embarked on my journey as a dentist, where I gained valuable
experience and honed my skills in various dental departments over the past seven years in the United
Arab Emirates. Throughout this time, my passion for oral maxillofacial surgery has continued to grow,
fuelled by the desire to utilize my knowledge and expertise to positively impact the lives of patients.

1. Academic Achievement: Throughout my dental education, I consistently excelled in surgical subjects.

In particular, I received an A grade in surgery as evidenced by my transcript. This demonstrates my strong
grasp of surgical concepts and techniques.

2. Commitment and Motivation: During my internship in the surgery department, I had the opportunity
to perform various procedures such as surgical extractions, intermaxillary fixation for trauma cases, and
extraoral abscess drainage. These experiences ignited a passion within me and reinforced my belief in
the life-saving potential of oral maxillofacial surgery. Witnessing patients recover and regain their quality
of life further fuels my motivation to pursue this specialty.

3. Extracurricular Activities: In addition to my academic pursuits, I actively engage in extracurricular

activities that align with my interest in oral maxillofacial surgery. I have participated in surgical
workshops and conferences, where I learned advanced techniques and stayed updated with the latest
developments in the field. These activities have helped me expand my knowledge beyond the classroom
and connect with professionals who share my passion.

4. Preparation: To prepare myself for a career in oral maxillofacial surgery, I have started delving into
various subjects relevant to the field. I have been studying anatomy extensively, particularly the
intricacies of the head and neck region. Additionally, I have been immersing myself in topics such as oral
pathology, oral manifestations of systemic diseases, microbiology, and infection control. By developing a
strong foundation in these areas, I aim to ensure my competence and proficiency as a future oral
maxillofacial surgeon.
In addition to my surgical internship, I had the opportunity to observe and participate in various cases
within oral maxillofacial surgery. I witnessed the profound impact of this specialty in areas such as
oncology, cleft lip and palate, and trauma. By observing and being involved in the management of these
cases, I gained firsthand experience in addressing complex surgical challenges and providing specialized
care. These encounters solidified my dedication to oral maxillofacial surgery, as I witnessed the positive
transformations and improved quality of life for patients in need. The diverse cases I have encountered
have further fueled my motivation to pursue this field and make a lasting impact on the lives of patients.
Now, as I set my sights on pursuing a specialty in oral maxillofacial surgery, the financial challenges of
studying at Seoul National University become apparent. However, with the support of scholarships or
