Opening -Introduce the “theme”
by a short discussion -The teacher will bring a bottle that
has a piece of paper inside. The
teacher will ask the students what
“do you think is inside?”. They
should reply that there is a
“message” inside the bottle. She
will then read a short story that has
the theme “Kindness”:

"Emma believed that kindness was


the glue that held everyone together.
She made it her mission to be kind
every day. Emma shared her snacks
with classmates, helped her little
brother tie his shoes, and always
offered a friendly smile. She
understood that even the smallest
acts of kindness could brighten
someone's day. Emma's friends
admired her for being a shining
example of how a little kindness
could make the world a better place.
They learned that being kind wasn't
just a choice; it was a superpower
that could change lives."

-The teacher will then ask the


students what do you think is the
message behind this story? The
teacher will give them a chance to
express themselves and then open
the bottle to find the message.

-The teacher will then introduce the


word “theme” and tell them that the
theme is the message or lesson of a
story.

story and then give each student a
highlighter to highlight the
sentences that he/she think helped
them know the theme.

central message, lesson, or moral of
a story or text. It is the idea or
concept that the author wants
readers to understand from the text.

and they should work in groups to
infer the theme of each paragraph.
