program for Filipino college students under the three components of National Service Training
Program (NSTP). Instituted by the Government of the Philippines on July 23, 2021 by virtue of
Republic 9163. Historically speaking, the first official ROTC unit in the Philippines was
established in the University of the Philippines on July 3, 1922. In 1921, National University
became the first private college in the Philippines to have an ROTC unit. The ROTC aims to
bring a better sense of purpose among the youth by building upon valuable “leader-follower”
relationships. In addition, The ROTC is designed to provide and educate us regarding military
training. In other words, the mandatory ROTC is beneficial to individuals as it helps us in the
near future.
The Mandatory ROTC is a very popular issues or concern here in the Philippines. Some people
are arguing about this if they are in favor or not. According to, Nepomuceno (2022) the Armed
Forces of the Philippines claim that compulsory military service will help the country build a
foundation for strong armed forces, ultimately making it a powerful nation. But in some cases,
many people had a different perspective and opinion about this issue. For me, I agree with the
petition of having a mandatory ROTC because it is beneficial for an individual. The factors why
it is beneficial to us is because it provides skill development, defense preparedness and improves
leadership.
A skill development is a process in which it involves acquiring, improving and enhancing a wide
range of competency and skills that a person must have. By having this we can now improve our
attributes and vital qualities to an effective workplace performance that can contribute to success
as individuals also in our economic growth.
On the other hand, a defense preparedness is a well-prepared and resilient workforce that
enhances the Department's ability to carry out its vital national security and warfighting
missions. By having these benefits, it will help us to be prepared and aware of what we should
do in unexpected situations that can harm or implicit danger in our lives or the people around us
that we can encounter in our daily lives.
Lastly, improve leadership where it boosts employee engagement, increase the organization's
ability to deal with gaps in the talent pipeline and reduce the headaches and cost associated with
turnover. By having this, it will help us to direct an organization's resources for improved
efficiency and the achievement of goals that we can apply to our life as well as its impact on our
self growth.
