Course Description This online course is designed for learners who have:
a. limited previous knowledge of English
b. Basic English Language Foundations
c. some basic English skills
d. CEFR level of high A1/low A2/A2.
In this course, the learners will improve their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills as well as grammar and vocabulary. The learners will
also discover the history of American culture—from immigration to car culture to the national park system, while improving their English
communication skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking, expand vocabulary, learn to form longer sentences, practice giving directions to
various locations, comparing items and events, and using common phrases and words while shopping. By the end of this course, the learners will
be able to carry out everyday conversations about a variety of interesting topics.
Learning Materials 1. Getting Acquainted: family names, country names, and language names, was and were, and adjectives to describe family and places.
2. Social Justice: longer sentences using and, but, and so; asking and answering questions with who,what and where, and words to describe
people.
3. Tourism:words to tell where people, places, and things are located, words to tell what people do in their free time, and capital letters for
important words.
4. Sociology: words to talk about clothes, shopping, and prices, how to ask about the prices and numbers of things, how to talk about things you
like and things you don’t like, and how to talk about things happening right now.
5. Technology: words to talk about cars, how to compare two things, how to tell people to do things and not do things, and how to give
directions.
6. Sustainability: words about how to help the Earth, how to write longer sentences, talking about actions to improve the Earth.
7. Psychology: words about preparing for a trip, words to write the order of actions, how to write longer sentences, how to ask questions about
the past, how to say and write verbs in the past.
8. Get Ready:posting videos on Canvas, taking quizzes on Canvas, and studying words with Quizle.
9. Getting Acquainted:Learn about people and talk about their personal mottos, study vocabulary words, practice how to ask questions, and
meet other people in this course.
