QUESTION 1 [25 MARKS]

Figure 1 shows a plate supported by two cables. The tension in cables is your 5 digits of
ID number (N).

(a) If the magnitude of two cables is the same, determine the moment couple created
by the two forces.

QUESTION 2 [25 MARKS]

Figure 2 shows a diving board supported by pinned at A and roller at B. The diving board
carries its self-weight of your 5 digits of ID number (g) and mass of a boy is 40 kg.

(a) Sketch the free body diagram (FBD) and determine the reactions at the support A
and B.

(b) If the diving board is supported by two springs at A and B and each spring has a
stiffness of k = 25 kN/m. Determine the angle of tilt by the board after the boy jump
off. Neglect the weight of the board and assume it is rigid.

Figure 3 shows a cross-sectional shape of a composite body.

(a) Determine the moment of inertia with respect to y-axis.

QUESTION 4 [25 MARKS]

The 10 kg mass ball is rotating around the pole in horizontal circular path as shown in
Figure 4. The length of the cable is your 5 digits of ID number (mm).

(a) If the angle 𝜃 is 30°, determine the velocity of the ball.

(b) If the tension in cable is 100 N, determine the velocity of the ball and the angle 𝜃.
