Task 4a: Asking Reporters’ Questions to Explore a Topic


In Task 3b (1-4) you practice making ideas for the reading passage “The violence Is Fake, The
Impact Is Real” by Ellen Goodman.

Use reporters’ questions to explore the topic you developed in that task. Write five
questions beginning with the words in the following list. Use the questions as a way to
probe your topic, to develop further ideas and possibilities.
Example:
Topic: The merit of television as a source of national news.

Questions: What if anything does television news offer to compensate for its relative lack
of depth (e.g. no editorial page, less coverage of “minor” stories?

Now choose 1-2 topics of the ones you made for Task 3b (1-4) and elaborate them as the
example above.
